Stripping Question

I am 38 wks and had my membranes stripped this morning. The pain was TERRIABLE. Worse than the labor of my first baby...I thought I could handle pain. woo! Anyhoo...I was wondering if anyone has had there membranes stripped? How long did it take for you to go into labor? Did you bleed after having the procedure done? I am still bleeding (brown, mucus like blood) and have been having frequent, non painful contractions since 10AM. Also..lower back pain. Wondering if this is all normal? Thanks.

Re: Stripping Question

My sister had her membranes stripped with her first baby. She was like 33.5 weeks when they did. At that point she had already lost her mucus plug days before. She had contractions for a couple more weeks and then they enduced her. He was born at 35.5 weeks. She had the bleeding a little bit too.

Re: Stripping Question

Oh my goodness. It hurts that bad? Do they strip everyone's membranes? I'll be 39 weeks next week and my Dr. hasn't informed me on any of this eeeek...

Re: Stripping Question

Your title thread threw me, lol.
What exactly is stripping membranes? And if it hurts that bad I sure hope they don't do it to me!

Re: Stripping Question

I've also heard that it really hurts. Just the phrase "stripping of the membranes" makes me cringe. I'll run a hundred miles in the other direction if the midwife ever mentions this to me.

Re: Stripping Question

It is when your OB takes a couple of fingers and seperates the bag of waters from the uterus. It is supposed to speed up labor. They usually won't do it unless you ask.

I heard if it is going to work...it will work within 48 hours. It has now been 24 hours...and nothing...:0(

Re: Stripping Question

It's didn't hurt me all that bad. It was seriously uncomfortable, but not awful. Anyway, I had mine stripped about 3:00 PM and started cramping immediately. By 6:00 AM I was on my way to the hospital after timing contractions since 2:00 AM. My DD was born at 2:00 pm! Good luck.

Re: Stripping Question

PJ-

I sure hope so!! I have been getting alot of lower back cramping...and have been in and out of the bathroom all day. The past 1/2 hr, I have been getting contractions every 3-5 minutes. They didn't hurt, and they have stopped. And now I am feeling sick to my stomach..I hope this is a sign that something soon will happen. Also...I lost my plug on Monday. Thanks !!

Re: Stripping Question

Curious, make sure you don't wait too long!!! After mine were stripped, my contractions never got closer than 6-8 minutes apart. They also would stop for a couple hours. The nurse kept telling me not to come in til they were closer together. However, when they got to the point where I couldn't walk or talk through them and I started having alot of brownish mucousy discharge, I went in. And I'm glad I did. I was 5 cms dilated. My contractions never did get closer together until they gave me the pitocin to try to get the baby's head to come down more (they wanted to break my water, but couldn't b/c she was too high and the cord was under her and could've prolapsed), but I kept dilating anyway!

Bummer

Alright. Well, I got my membranes stripped Friday morning at 10. Today is Sunday morning...8:33. NOTHING. Don't they say if labor doesn't start within 48 hours that the procedure didn't work? I am so bummed out now. sigh.....
