| Re: What causes miscarriages & birth defects?
The obvious things with miscarriages would be heavy lifting, sometimes when you fall hard and dangerous sports, but exercise is good still eg, walking, exercise bike and light exercises. Smoking may increase your chances but isnt directly linked so much like the others, as many women smoke when they are pregnant but its allways best to give up anyway.
As with birth defects certain drugs can cause them, too much vitamin A (not the beta carotene type though) although liver has alot of vitamin A init and my mum ate it every week when she was pregnant, inherited problems or things that come under neither of those catogaries can. If you are on certain medication talk to your doctor right away and they will tell you the risks.
Things like paracetamol (tylenol) are fine, try the over the counter sleep tab called unsiom (not the gels) for morning sickness! has been proven and is just about the safest drug to take during pregnanct according to the FDA, if u r in the UK find it on USA ebay. Try senna for constipation as trust me u will get it! he he!
Avoid foods like soft cheese, liver, pate, raw egg yolk (not white), dont empty cat litter trays, some say peanuts may cause allergies in your baby but i dont really follow that one, also wash fruit and salad properly when before you eat.
Apart from that rest and relax! too much stress is never good!!
Hope your pregnancy is a good one!! i am 21 weeks and didnt get morning sickness but fatigue is common!! and you will prob get cramps still down there so dont panic (unless u r bleeding too call doc)
