Unhappy Diarrhea and pre-labor

Has anyone heard that having diarrhea is a sign of labor coming? I am 36.5 weeks and I have been up all morning since 3:30am with the worst cramps. I thought nothing of it and went and tried to sleep but as soon as I woke up at 7:30 the pain started again. It was horrible. I went to my DS t'ball game and still the pain would come and go but wasn't consistant so I didn't even try to call my doctor. On the way home I had a horrible cramp and as soon as I got home I had to go to the restroom but I didn't feel like I had to until I got home. So since 10:30 I've had diarrhea come and go. (Sorry TMI) I read in my book that this could be a sign of labor but I haven't even dropped yet or I don't think I have.

Re: Diarrhea and pre-labor

Yes It can happen but its not a sure sign of labor cause id thought the same thing a few weeks ago when I had it really bad and with cramps also. I was fine and not in labor. Sometimes during pg you can go from normal or constapation to diareaha very fast. If your worried its a good idea to let your doc know though.

Re: Diarrhea and pre-labor

I have heard stories of women thinking they were just having gas pains with diahreah and they were actually in labor.

As for not having dropped yet, especially if this is your second baby, don't rely on that as a sign! My DD was WAY high. She was at a -3 station still when I was 8 cm's dilated!

Call the doc!

Re: Diarrhea and pre-labor

Well, the pain has stopped as of 3ish. So maybe I just had diarrhea really or the onset of labor. It's just weird because I haven't been constipated at ALL. Actually I'm more regular then I am when I'm not PG. I did read that second time moms don't always drop so I won't look to that as a sign of not being in the beginning of labor. My next dr appt is on Tuesday and if by then I get more pains I will call but so far I am OK. The pain was HORRIBLE today omg I really did feel like I was in labor or going into labor. I had forgotten how bad it does hurt lol. Thank you all for your responses.

Re: Diarrhea and pre-labor

This is tmi on my part probably too but I had diarrhea most of my first pregnancy. The doctor thought it was a little odd considering most people are constipated but he never did figure out what it was. Baby was completely healthy. This time same thing, maybe just a diet change? Just keep hydrated and everything will probably be fine.

Re: Diarrhea and pre-labor

You could be in the early stage of labour you need to try and stay as calm as you can i know it must be very hard and if you feel like you have to go to the restroom agian then just be very carefull i hoped that helped a bit bye.
