I'm starting to feel somewhat large and frumpy and could really do with brightening myself up a bit. I was thinking about getting my hair done and having a few highlights. Is it ok to have your hair highlighted or should I avoid it because of the bleach / chemicals in the dye?
They're not okay in the beginning of pregnancy. Also, if you do it later in your pregnancy, I know people who have gotten a totally different hair color that they wanted, because of the hormones. So just be warned before you go!

Spanish...go ahead & do it. The real concern with haircoloring is some people are concerned some of the chemicals may leach through the skin. I have never seen/read any proof of this...I've only heard wives tales. Even my doc said this is fine...even in early pregnancy.
I've heard stories that sometimes a perm won't take well on a pregnant woman's hair.
My doc gave me the go ahead to do whatever I wanted done with my hair. I just got a full head of highlights last week and I feel wonderful. If you are still scared...get highlights...foil or cap. The product doesn't soak on your skin.
There's no proof at all that hair color affects the baby. Like Gayle said it's more of an old wive's tale. Before getting a head full of highlights a couple of months ago I checked in my "What to Expect..." book and it said that the only real concern is the color may take differently than it normally would. I'll be getting my colors touched up again in a couple of weeks and I can't wait!
I agree go ahead and do it, like the others said, the worst part is that MAYBE the color won't take the way it would if you were not pg. In my experience, mine has not been different yet. In fact, I am doing my own hair as I type this lol. Bout ready to go wash out. good luck, get it done and feel good about yourself again.
