Question Help with info

I just joined here, and would like help with a question. My daughter is going into her 24th week. Has been having cramping. Went for routine Dr.'s visit yesterday and Dr. could not find babys hearbeat around the normal spot around belly button, but finally got it much lower than the bb. She just stated that my daughter was carrying very low and advised and made an appt. for her to see a Perinatologist next week. She sort of left her hanging, and of course we are worried sick. If anyone has been in this kind of situation or can shed any light on this situation, we would appreciate any input. Thanks so much. Worried Mom.....Marcie

Re: Help with info

The baby could just be head down, which would explain the low heartbeat. Did she give any other reason for the referral? Carrying low is not out of the ordinary and does not indicate a problem in most cases. I carried my first really low with no issues. Is the cramping like period cramps or is it stronger? Is she bleeding? Some cramping is normal, but not if it's accompanied by bleeding. Usually they schedule an ultrasound to check it out if there is something out of the ordinary.

Re: Help with info

Thanks so much...She is not bleeding, and feels like period cramping. Dr. gave no other reasons to see the specialist. Thank you for your input, I feel a little better.

Re: Help with info

My little guy was really low until just recently, then he moved up for a while, then right back down. I have had crampy feelings all along, but so far there hasn't been a problem with them. I don't really know why she would thinkyour daughter needed to see a specialist, unless she thinks the baby has turned down already to get ready to come out. But even then, babies turn around alot! I hope all goes well!

Re: Help with info

The cramping may be Braxton Hicks Contractions which are very common around the 24th week, also I wouldn't worry about the heartbeat as long as you heard it!
