Counting Contractions

I've been told a couple of different ways to count contractions from books, my lamaze teacher and friends. I've only got a few more weeks to go and I haven't experienced any contractions yet. I want to make sure I don't go to the hospital to soon and be sent home. I'll ask my Dr. at next weeks appt. but I was wondering if any mothers could tell me what they did. Thank.

Lynn

Re: Counting Contractions

Does anyone whose already had a baby remember how to count between
contractions? How far apart were they before you went to the hospital?

Re: Counting Contractions

I counted contractions for 5 hours, and they never got closer together than 6-8 minutes. I kept calling L&D because they were getting painful, and they kept telling me to wait til they were 3-4. They never got closer together, but they did get more painful, so I said "screw them!" and went to the hospital. Thank goodness, cause when I got there I was a good 5 cms. My contractions never got closer together til they gave me pitocin, and I kept dilating!

My bottom line is trust your body and your intuition. The rules don't apply to everyone, and you don't want to be doing a car delivery.

Everyone says "you'll know when you're in labor" and I HATED that. But it's true. The feeling is unmistakeable.

If you do make a false start to the hospital, it's better to be safe than sorry! Lots of people have done it.

Re: Counting Contractions

My Dr. says to count contractions by starting the count at the beginning of a contraction and ending the count at the beginning of the next.
