I've just come back from my midwifes appointment and she told me she thought my baby was going to be 6 - 7 pounds. She said average was 6 - 9 pounds so this is within the average range, but for some reason I'm now feeling concerned that the baby is the small end of average and I'm wondering if it's growing ok. I think I'll phone her up for some reassurance but would appreciate any comments.
My son was born and he weighed 5lbs 11 1/2 oz...he was fine, now hes bigger then his older brother who was born at 6lbs 8 oz. But from my experience, dont trust the weight the ultrasound says , they said my 5lb 11 1/2 oz baby was 8lbs in my belly, they were WAY off!

Oh, well this wasn't even from an ultrasound, she just felt my belly and measured it, so I guess it's only very approximate anyway. Also I've just looked through the recently delivered list and it looks like 6 - -7 pounds is pretty normal.
Itis very normal. My 1st child was 7 pounds 1 ounce only because I carried her a week over my due date. My 2nd was 6 pounds 14 ounces, & my 3rd was 6 pounds 12 ounces. All VERY healthy. So your baby sounds very normal.
My midwife did the belly feel when I was in labor. She told me that I had a small baby in there, probably under 7 lbs. She weighed 7'6, but she was really short (18 1/2 inches).
Now at 2 months she's 13 lbs and 23 inches! 90% for weight and 75% for length.
My son was only 7 lbs and he was the same way. HUGE growth spurt in the first few months.
So not only is your baby's size normal, birth size is in no way an indicator of the size of the baby later in life, even a few weeks later. Most OB's think that most babies grow to a good "birth size'' for mom's pelvis.
