Sushi & Seafood

Can you eat sushi at all in the second or third trimester. I have not eaten it and am almost done with mny 5th month but i am craving raw tuna so badly!! Can it be eaten at this point at all or has anyone eaten it while pregnant? Also, I know that you should limit your shellfish intake while pregnant but how much can you eat per week?

I had one piece of my husbands but your reall not supposed to so I'll get the veggie kind. I only know about limiting your intake of high mercury containing fish like shark and farm raised salmon.but even that is two servings per week(4 oz).

Re: Sushi & Seafood

I have read absolutely no sushi while pregnant. You can eat shellfish, though, and cooked fish. Like the other poster said, you should limit tuna and other fish that could contain mercury.

Re: Sushi & Seafood

No sushi at all anytime. I honestly don't see how it is safe even when you aren't pregnant, but it is really dangerous when you aren't. As for the other fish, any thing but deep water and farm raised fish is usually ok, as long as it cooked really good.

Re: Sushi & Seafood

You can eat certain sushi rolls as long as they are all cooked! The only reason you cant eat most sushi is because its raw and theres a higher risk for food poising. But certain rolls are fine, just make sure everything in it is cooked. Of course, stay away from certain fishes with higher mercury levels.
