Anemia and allergic to Iron in pregnancy

Hi,
I'm nearly 6 weeks pregnant and have been anemic since my early teens, I'm also allergic to Iron,
I have a Hb count of 9 and a ferritin level of 6! (This was BEFORE I got pregnant)
I was wondering if there was anyone out there who has simular problems, Of if have been this anemic during pregnancy and have any problems with early / small babies, birth problems ect?
Any feedback would be greatfully recived,
Thanks
Nes

I'm anemic right now while pregnant, but I was also Anemic with my first child and she came out 8lbs 11 oz's and healthy as can be. I'm not totally sure if it has an affect on your unborn, but it's not good for the mother. Just make sure that your doctor knows about everything and maybe you can have a family member donate blood for you in case you need it. My dad's doing it for me!

I don;t think it will hurt the baby unless it gets down to low, cause the baby will take what it needs, regardless. But it could be bad for you. Are you just allergic to iron pills? Or even foods with high iron content?

Re: Anemia and allergic to Iron in pregnancy

Hi,
Thanks for your replies,
My Iron (HB) count before I got pregnant wasn't TOO bad at 9, But I know the bllood dilutes in pregnancy, But My ferritin being so low I guess means that my body has no stores to fall back on,
I'm on a iron rich diet, I see the consultant in a few weeks, I'm nervous about what he'll say, But I'm sure everything will be OK
Thanks for you help, Very much appresiated.
Nes!

Arent you constantly tired with it so low? Mine got down really low, 7.1, if it had dropped that .1 I would have had to have a transfusion, and I was so tired I couldnt breathe. What is your hemocratic, do you know?
