Abnormal Pap- Colposcopy??????

My Dr office just contacted me yesterday and informed me that the pap I had done at 10wk came back abnormal. She said he needed to do a colposcopy. I'm a little scared because I never had an abnormal pap,nor a colposcopy. Has anyone else had a pap come back abnormal during a pregnancy and if so what was the reason? Has anyone had a colposcopy done while pregnant and is there a chance of a miscarriage. 15wks and worried!!!

Re: Abnormal Pap- Colposcopy??????

I've never had one while pregnant, but I've had an abnormal pap before, and I have had a colposcopy. It's uncomfortable - moreso than a regular Pap, and they may have to do a biopsy if there are abnormal cells. But again, not sure how this may affect pregnancy (if at all) - I'd presume that your GYN would be well aware of any risks and let you know if there was anything to worry about?

Re: Abnormal Pap- Colposcopy??????

I had an abnormal pap and a colposcopy over ten years ago. The only thing I remember is very severe cramps afterward. I also had to have paps every 6
months instead of once a year for the next couple of years. I know they were
checking for cancerous cells to reappear but I never had a problem after that. I don't
know anything about it during pregnancy. Call your doctor for answers.

Re: Abnormal Pap- Colposcopy??????

I had a a colposcopy done due to an abnormal pap two years ago, although I wasn't pregnant at the time. It was a little uncomfortable but it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be, there was some cramping afterward. My results came back normal. I'm sure if it wasnt safe to perfrom during pregnancy then your doctor would not do it. Just try to relax and stay positive.

Re: Abnormal Pap- Colposcopy??????

My DIL has had a number of abnormal paps and fortunately each time all has been okay. Back in August she had another abnormal and a biopsy was done......all was okay. We found out that she was pregnant almost immediately afterward and was probably pregnant at the time the biopsy was done. Another biopsy was done about 1 1/2 mos. ago........again, it was abnormal but the doctor said they would wait until the baby was born to check further. Sounds scarry to me. Why do the paps continue to come back abnormal?

Re: Abnormal Pap- Colposcopy??????

I had a colposcopy a year ago for abnormal cells, and I thought it was a breeze. The warned me about possible cramps and spotting afterwards, but I had nothing at all. To me, it was like a pap.
