41 weeks and still no baby........

Well, my DIL went to the doctor yesterday and she hasn't changed any since last week (2 cent. 75% effaced). She was told by one midwife and they would consider inducing when she was a week late. Yesterday she was told that they wouldn't consider it unless she was AT LEAST 10 days late. She was due this past Monday 5/30. She has also had her membranes stripped twice...........NOTHING!!!

It's really sad. Her 8 year old had plans to go out of town starting today. They thought for certain the baby would be here. Her parents could only come if she had the baby this past weekend. (????) For some reason her Mom won't fly up (she has in the past). Her Mom then she said they would come the middle of June..........now it's the middle of July. The bad things is that our family vacation which they won't be able to go on starts Saturday the 11th. We haven't been able to reschedule after trying for 6 months. Anyway, I won't be here to stay with her. I just feel horrible. I'm thinking about staying home with her but I was also planning on taking her son, our grandson, with us so that he wouldn't miss out on anything.

The doctor has my DIL coming back in on Monday for a stress test. Does anyone know exactly what this test is for nd how it's done? SURELY they will induce then. Can't imagine why they just aren't doing so anyway. Maybe we'll have that baby some day!!!!

Re: 41 weeks and still no baby........

They just put 2 straps around your abdomen and monitor the baby's movements and heartrate when the baby moves. It is no big deal. I am surprised they wouldn't induce. Have they done an ultrasound to estimate the weight of the baby? Maybe the baby will get tired of waiting and just come on it's own.

Re: 41 weeks and still no baby........

My 1st child was never coming on her own. I carried her a week over my due date. And still then I had not even dialated to 1. This baby wasn't coming out. But thankfully my doctor does not let anyone carry over a week so he induced me which I ended up having an emergency c-section cause even by inducing I still was't dialating. Good Luck to our DIL. Tell her to complain of pain maybe then they'll do something. It's not healthy for the baby to carry her/him over a week.

Re: 41 weeks and still no baby........

I've read that most doctors don't start being concerned about the baby until 42 weeks. Some doctors are perfectly willing to induce the day you are due (or even before), but I believe fluid levels don't start dropping until 42 weeks.
