I was a vegetarian prior to getting pregnant but since I got pregnant have been eating chicken once a week and turkey hot dogs maybe once a month. I only do it to make my husband and family feel better cause they all freak out on me.
My doctor told me however that there is no need to eat meat as long as I am eating legumes such as beans and peas. My menu includes: Lentil soup once a week, three bean salad once a week or a black-eyed pea and squash salad. I also eat spinach (iron) in my salad every day, as well as other green leafy vegetables.
How do you feel about fish? I eat fish once or twice a week depending on the type of fish we buy that week.
Have you tried soy? Personally I can't eat soy as it makes me ill but that is another alternative.
Try Harvest Burgers they are very good.
Yes, Harvest burgers are the same as veggie burgers. Sorry.
Coryn0921 - If you crave red meat it could mean that you need iron. If you can't eat or think about the meat then try lentils or spinach. I like to sautee some onions and garlic with some pure olive oil and then add 4 cups washed spinach and half a cup of tomato juice with 1 tablespoon of lemon, salt and pepper. Simmer that for about half an hour and enjoy! I made that recipe up last week cause I have come to love lemons since geeting pregnant. It's not too bad even my DH enjoyed this one!
I've gone in the opposite direction and have completely gone off veggies. I'm a huge veggie person but since getting pregnant I can only stomach corn and that's only been recently. Within the last couple of weeks I've slowly started back on tomatoes and cucumbers. I'd love to get back to eating veggies normally again. I love meat as long as it's cooked outside on the grill. This whole pregnancy thing is bizarre!! *lol*
I definitely can't eat anything with ground beef in it. Plain chicken is okay if I eat is slowly, and I'm trying a roast tonight, so we'll see...I do hope the meat aversion goes away, though. I can't imagine not eating meating for the rest of my pregnancy. I can't eat vegetables, either, other than corn and artichokes. I did actually get a salad down the other day, though.
I have weird meat eating habits now. I still want to eat any ground meat, be it beef or turkey. I am completely turned off by things like baked chicken or steak. the idea of the texture just seems gross. I also do crave salty/spiced meats such as pepperoni, bacon or sausage.
It's weird because I used to eat chicken all the time.
I can not stand beef. I can not eat hamburgers use to love them before. I loved tuna before and now I cant even look at a can I start gagging. I hated grapfruit before and now I eat like two a day.
