sex after the baby...

Do your chances of getting pregnant increase after having a baby? My son was born 3 weeks ago and my bf and I just had unprotected sex yesterday.

Re: sex after the baby...

I know when I tried to get preg with my son it took us three months but this time I was just swiching B/C pills and SURPRISE!!!! I think so but if your nursing that brings the chances down a bit. Be careful though I know someone who is due w/ her 3rd this month that she found out about on her 6 week checkup!

Re: sex after the baby...

Yes it is much easier cause your body is still kinda ready to be pregnant. I know I got pregnant when my son was 5 months and there was only the 1 time we had un protected sex. I had ttc my son for 4 years, so I thought my sister was crazy to keep warning me, but sure enough. I unfortunately lost that pregancy, so I waited my 3 cycles and tried again. And we are 8 wks 4days, and my son will be 1 on the 23rd of June (I will be 11 wks then).

Re: sex after the baby...

after having a baby your body is primed and ready for reproduction. so it can be very easy to get pregnant.

DH and I DTD at 5 weeks PP and even though we used protection I was still paranoid....

Re: sex after the baby...

Oh my goodness 3 weeks? Are you sure you're fully healed yet...from...everything? I'm 6 weeks post pardum and when my fiance and I DTD it was still kinda uncomfortable for the first few minutes and I was sore for about a day in a half afterwards (dunno if that's normal? but all sexual activity was put on hold when I was 25 weeks). But I too heard that it was very easy to become pregnant right after...well being pregnant*

Your chances of becoming pregnant while strictly brestfeeding decreases not increases! During breastfeeding, your body produces higher levels of the hormone prolactin, which suppresses ovulation. This alone reduces your chances of getting pregnant while breastfeeding to an estimated 1 to 2 percent. The percentage increases throughout the first year, raising the chance of conception to 6 percent after six months.

Re: sex after the baby...

NEVER assume that just because you're breastfreeding that you won't become pregnant. A neighbor of mine is currently pregnant with her second baby. She had only given birth 4 weeks earlier to her son! Because she was breastfeeding she assumed she was safe to have unprotected sex. One of my friends who has 2 kids told me that you are very fertile just after giving birth...whether you breastfeed or not.

Re: sex after the baby...

My OB perscribed me birth control safe to use while nursing, I would ask for some...I think it was called Micronor. Chances are you are fine, but I would definately use something protection next time...my mother in law had 2 babies in one year thinking she too was safe because she was breastfeeding. It happens quite aften as you can see from your posts. LOL.
Goodluck. How'z the little bundle of joy doing anyway?

Re: sex after the baby...

You are not supposed to ovulate before 4 weeks postpartum, so a week before then you are probably okay. If you are fully nursing (no supplements at all) at least every 4 hours, you are not supposed to ovulate for 6 months.

Re: sex after the baby...

Hi ladies. Thank you all for your replies. My boyfriend and I haven't had unprotected sex since. After having the unprotected sex, I continued to bleed and am guessing that I'm not pregnant.

We have only done it once since my son was born (this Friday he will be 5 weeks old) and it only lasted minutes since we performed foreplay before any penetration. He knew I was still sore and was willing to make it short. Telling him no would be the same as fighting a hungry lion off of a zebra.

Anyway, someone asked how my son and I were doing and I'm happy to report that everything is going great. He's a great baby and everyone is always telling me how "I don't know how good I've got it" with him. He's beautiful - biracial with black hair and blue eyes. The whole family thinks his eyes will stay blue since they haven't changed yet.

He's a big boy - maybe 10 - 12 lbs, but tall too. In the 90th percentil for his heigth. We're looking at an all star athlete here

Re: sex after the baby...

lynn, it is great to hear you are doing so well and the baby too, it is hard to believe it has been 5 wks already.

About the eye thing, don't let people fool you lol, ask your doc, when I had my daughter she had blue eyes also, but they told me that if they were still blue at 1 yrs old, they would stay that way, and they have. The eyes can change at any time, see what your pediatrician tells you about that, I am only going by what my pediatrician told me with my dd.

I am glad to report I only have 5 1/2 wks to go lol, thank god. can't wait. good to hear from you.

Re: sex after the baby...

Actually, my DS had bright blue eyes at 1 year. Now at almost 2, they are beginning to turn greenish.

Re: sex after the baby...

I am not sure whether or not his eyes will stay blue. Mine are bright blue and always have been. My boyfriend has dark brown eyes though and not to mention, is black. Most of the time, biracial children are just born with brown eyes. I think the fact that my son was born with blue ones just shocks everyone.

I do know a biracial man who has bright green eyes though, so it could happen.
