Question contractions; how do they feel like?

Hello,
Hope you are all doing fine. I am 25 weeks pregnant and every once in a while feel a presure bellow my belly. It lasts 30 sec to a min each time. It is uncomfortable. Is this what contractions are? has anyone got these at this early in pregnancy?
thanks

Re: contractions; how do they feel like?

Pressure? Does it feel like menstrual cramps? I have had contractions, apparently but have yet to feel them, so I can't really tell you. But I have heard them described like that. And they will last about 30-45 seconds. You might be having braxton hicks, but since you are pretty early on you should probably call the dr.

Re: contractions; how do they feel like?

I called the doctor and they said if i feel that more than 10 times an hour i haveto let them know. but i always thought contractions are really painful. No, this doesn't feel like cramping. It feels like heavy weight dropping. i don't know how to express myself better. I am just wondering if anybody else has the same feeling?

Re: contractions; how do they feel like?

Kkkkk ~ What you are feeling are called Braxton Hicks contractions. They are harmless, just your uterus getting prepared for the work ahead. Your uterus is a muscle which reacts to hormonal changes. The tightening it is experiencing is just some practice and preparation for the labor ahead.....sort of a conditioning and toning exercise. Your doctor is right....if you experience more than 10 an hour it is important to call him.

Hope this helps ease your mind a little....Goody

Re: contractions; how do they feel like?

KKK,
I had that same feeling at 25 weeks and I was actually was in labor that early, they were not painful, but the feeling kind of felt tight and sometimes would take my breath away. If you are nervous, you can call the doctor and ask to be put on a fetal monitor or go to the labor and delivery. I am not trying to scare you,but it is better to be safe, i am glad that I went, because they were able to stop my labor with medicine and bed rest. also stay hydrated, being dehydrated can send you into early labor.

good luck
