hey everyone, i went to the doctor 3 weeks ago and they didnt tell me anything about having a short cervix. my question is... i went yesterday and i was told i went from a 14 to a 13.1 which they consider a significant change. and when i read things online it says that they stitch at under 15... so im a little confused, when i went the first time 3 weeks ago they said the cervix looked fine. so now im on bed rest and have to go back next week! anyone have experience with this?? i cant compare to my first pregnancy because i never saw a specialist so no one ever looked for this. but i was 2 cm dilated for 2 months before i gave birth, so im confused! help!
When I was about 20-24 wks along my dr told me the same thing, they thought my cervix was shortening, and told me to do NO lifting, stay resting, and off my feet, no sex.. etc. etc. Well, We moved back to my home town shortly after that, and so I saw the dr, I have had most of my life, they check everything out, and said it looked fine. (they've been keeping an eye on the situation) The other dr's were really flipping out about it, and it really scared me!
you said you went from a 14 to a 13.1 ? What measurments is that?
Mine were in centimeters, and everything I've read online about it says that normal cervix length is about 3.5 -4 cm. Mine is about 2.5 cm right now, but I've read that they won't stitch anything (do a Cervical Cerclage) until it's 2 cm, or under.
Hope that helps, and don't worry about it! I'm sure your dr's will keep a good eye on your situation.

oki went back to the doctor and found out exactly the numbers!! i went from 39mm to 31mm in 2 weeks and then i went from 31mm to 25mm in one week, which is significatn shortening for such a small amount of time. so right now at 24 weeks 2 days, im measuring 25mm or 2.5cm, and i am really scared about premature labor. if it shortens by next week i think i will be started on procardia to relax the uterus. has any one had any experience with this?? im on complete bedrest right now and i hope that it works! and also, does anyone know if they stitch (cerclage) so late in the pregnancy?
My friend woke up one night and was in alot of pain, she was 22 weeks. She got to the hospital and she was already 6cm, they were giving her meds to stop her labor, than they had her bed tilted where she was almost doing a handstand to keep the pressure off of her cervix. They did a cerclage on her and she had a wonderful pregnancy after that. When they removed her stitch, she didnt go into labor for 2 wks.So, yes it can be done this late and it was very benefical for her and her DS.
my cerclage was done at 20 weeks, i do not know if they can do one much later than that. with my next pregnancy, I will have to have it done at 13 weeks, the earlier the better. less chance of rubturing the membranes. I was on mag sulfate and terb pump for 11 weeks to relax my uterus, my baby girl was born in august 4 weeks early and healthy as can be. the bed rest was soooooo worth it. good luck - keep us posted
im now 25 weeks and still on complete bed rest. my md wants to give me indomethacin for one week but i am so afraid to take it because it can cause a variety of fetal adverse effects, i dont know whats worse. i am also on a blood thinner and taking both can increase my risk for bleeding. idont know what to do. i had no problems at all with my first, i actually delivered at 41 weeks exactly. im confused and scared. i was supposed to start the meds last night but since im not doing in the office until thurs, i dont think ill start until monday.
