I'm 19 weeks along and I have lost 19 lbs. My doctor doesn't seem too worried because I was heavier than average when i got pregnant, but still I haven't heard of people losing that much weight espeacially when they are well into there 2nd trimester. If anyone has had a similar experience please share.
Is there an explanation for the weight loss? Have you had morning sickness? Some women who have bad sickness can lose quite a bit of weight during pregnancy...there are a few who lose weight right up to the end.
I know I was so sick in the beginning of my 1st pregnancy that I lost weight. And have started losing again this time. But the Dr. was never concerned cause I had plenty to lose and the baby was always growing. I had an average size baby (probably small for my size) he was 6lbs and 10 oz but he was very healthy. I was mainly sick the 1st half of my pregnancy well into the 2nd trimester, but I did gain by the end I think it was 17 lbs. As long as the baby is growing don't worry, the Dr. will tell you if he is concerned.

My SIL had severe morning sickness with her 2nd PG and didn't start gaining weight until 23 weeks. She actually lost 20 lbs in the beginning, and she is a tiny little Korean girl! She was down to 95 lbs before she started gaining again. She delivered a 7 lb 11 oz perfectly healthy baby girl.
My friend is now 30 weeks pregnant and has JUST gained weight. She is now +4 for the pregnancy, but she was 30 lbs overweight to begin with, and the baby is measuring fine on u/s and fundal height, so the docs aren't concerned at all. I think it happens quite often, because people start paying more attention to what they eat and eating healthier foods when PG. And it's good. The less overweight you are, the lower your risk of gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and other complications.

Well my cousin was overweight but during her entire pregnancy she lost 40 lbs and she gave birth a healthy baby girl so if your doctor isnt concerned then I guess its ok!
I was dieting before I realized I was pregnant and wasn't losing much then after I found out and stayed sick I lost a lot. I have lost 20 lbs this year and I'm a little farther along than you. Although my dr.s were concerned and put me on meds basically because I wasn't holding food down or getting nutrition. I've gained maybe 1 to 2 lbs since and it comes and goes. At around 6 mth mark I expected to have gained a lot. My stomach is large (showing) though.
I had a friend that lost 30lbs in the 1st 2 trimesters from severe morning sickness. She was a very small girl to begin with and her dr didn't get to concerned either. At the end she delivered a 7lb healthy baby girl! I say if your baby is growing properly there should be no worries! Also, my best friend delivered her 7lb 2.5 oz 21in baby boy last week and she was actually losing weight at the end of her pregnancy and again her dr wasn't concerned!
Hey there
I was heavy prepregnancy about 200lbs, have lost 25lbs so far still losing. I am 24wks. The doctor says its fine that your metabolism speeds up when your pregnant. he says as long as baby is growing its ok. I had morning sickness the first few months but havent had any for a while now an still losing. he says Just make sure your eating the right foods and taking your vitamins. I am starting to get a bit swollen tummy now. but still no weight gain.
monica
i started to lose weight as well. it turns out that the nurse prac. did screen me for diabetes, which is not what they normally do at 6 weeks, thank god she did. i am a diabetic. not sure if its pregnancy related or not.having diabetes can really harm your baby if you dont eat properly. other than that bit of advice, i dont know???? i hope all goes well!!!!
Thanks Everyone, I did have really bad morning sickness and every once in awhile I still do, but I feel like I gained weight but nope....all well I guess it'll be okay and it should be easier to get rid of the baby weight after I deliver. Well I was just concerned and thanks again!
