Breast problem

Today, My nipple has been itching and carrying on... with a vengence.. all I wanted to do is scratch it. I dont know what to do with it... it itches and burns.. What is going on with it? Does it mean that milk is coming in and soon I will be leaking? Its really irritating.

Re: Breast problem

Mine are the same way. I posted awhile ago on this and got a lot of good answers about products that relieve the itchyness. I just about itched mine raw I tried everything that I had on hand and the only thing that wound up helping was a little KY jelly. I didn't try the Aveeno cream that a few people suggested though. I just had that on hand and tried it as a last straw and it worked..

Re: Breast problem

I had the same problem a couple weeks ago and my midwife said it was a yeast infection on my nipple. It was a small patch of flaky skin that itched like crazy. She told me to get Lotramin cream (like what you use for Athlete's Foot) and put it on 3x a day. It persisted for 4 weeks so I asked for something else. Last week they gave me a prescription for Nystatin cream and it went away in a couple days but I am supposed to continue using it for a couple weeks. Nystatin is not harmful to the baby if you plan to breastfeed. Supposedly pregnant women carry more yeast on their bodies and this is fairly common?? I didn't have this problem with my first pregnancy!
