Question Any tips for helping baby to drop?

Hello, I'm 37.5 weeks and only 1cm dilated. This is no change from my last check!! Not only that, the doc told me that my baby has not dropped and is still high up! On top of that, he said that I would have a big baby. My first baby was born at 38wks and was 6 pounds 9oz. I really scared that I will have to have a c-section. If anybody has any tips on how to get the baby to move downwards more, please help

After the 1st pregnancy Ive heard the baby in many cases dosent drop till labor starts. You cant help this process. That baby is the safest, warmest, and most secure right now. Let him/her enjoy it...This is your second baby so dont worry...Its much easier! My first was 8'6 My second was 9'11. No c-section. Did you ask him what he meant by big? You will be fine, positive thinking! Our bodies were made for this! good luck!

I'm in the same boat - almost 39 weeks, barely 2cm dilated and the baby is still high up. This is my second pregnancy too and I was told that once the baby drops you are in labor or just about to start, so it still could happen at any time.
It's hard for them to make a true judgement about your baby's size - they are just estimating. Don't let it scare you. And like "almonkey" said, even if it is a big baby - doesn't mean you'll definitely have a C-section. People have big babies vaginally all the time .
I've just been walking everyday, drinking my red raspberry leaf tea, and taking evening primrose oil to help things a long. I did this with my first pregnancy and I was a week early with a 6 hour labor. I hope that happens again!!!
Good luck to you!

Re: Any tips for helping baby to drop?

i know with my first pregnancy my mom made me walk like crazy but that didn't help much and i ended up going a week past due. my mom heard from a hispanic lady at her work to make me some tea with cumin (comino in spanish) to just boil the seeds and have me drink it. so that night i drank it and about 5:30 am i felt like i had to go diarreah but nothing. i kept getting up and finally the third time my mom asked me what was the matter and when i told her she said that i was in labor. sure enough after i got out of the shower (because i was shaving just in case, LOL) my water broke.
with the second i took castor oil and the same thing happened the next morning, and i had been dilated at 2cm for 2weeks, but i still wasn't sure so i dropped my son off at the sitters and called my docs office and they got me in and i was 4cm so she admitted me and thats when all the fun began.
goodluck,
robin
