Heartrate

Just wondering what people know about baby's heartrates. I am 10.5 weeks and had an u/s yesterday to make sure that there was a heartrate (an earlier u/s didn't detect one). The baby's heartrate was 171 and the u/s tech said that was good.
My son's heartrate was always between 145-155 except when I was in labour. I know they say 160+ usually means a girl but not always. What I am really wondering is if the heartrate is higher in early pregnancy as I didn't hear ds's heartrate until I was atleast 14 weeks?
Thanks,

Re: Heartrate

Yes. The heartrate typically "peaks" around the 8-9 week mark & then starts to taper off and settle a little lower. I was concerned early in my pregnancy & did a lot of research on the heartrate and found that my babies followed a pretty typical pattern. At 6 weeks, the HB was 108, at 9 weeks, it was 180 and by 14 weeks and onward it settled around 140.

Re: Heartrate

At 6w 5d my baby's heartrate was 113 bpm. At 10w 1d it was 167 bpm and at 13w 1d it was 163bpm.
It sounds to me like you have a healthy active little peanut in there!! The more active your baby is at the time (or just before) they measure the heartrate the higher the bpm's are. The time to really worry is when the bpm's are less than 100.
Enjoy your pregnancy and relax!! Everything sounds perfect!
With my first child, his heartrate was 170 at 12 weeks and at the time of birth it was around 138.

Re: Heartrate

My little guy has been 140-150 since 10 weeks. His heartrate must have settled down pretty early because I was wondering why it wasn't up in the 160-170s at 10 weeks, but if the doctor says all is well then I wouldn't worry.

Re: Heartrate

I am actually hoping this means it is a girl!!! I really only want to do this labour thing once more so if it is a girl and I would sure feel like we would be done having kids.
Thanks for all the input.

Re: Heartrate

Jordyn:

I know from experience and from doing a lot of reading that the heartrate has absolutely nothing to do with the gender. I know....not what you want to hear. I also am hoping and praying for a girl. I have a wonderful ds whose heartrate at every prenatal appointment was a "girls heartbeat". I even thought it was a girl!! So much for mother's instinct.
I keep having dreams that it's a girl and then people all tell me they think I am having another boy. All that really matters in the grand scheme of things is that the baby is healthy and happy but I have to admit...I would be elated if it's a girl. This was the deciding factor for me to find out the gender at my next u/s. This way if it's another boy I can adapt and bond with him (or her) before they arrive!
