Weight gain

Sunday I will be 24 weeks along and have gained only 5lb so far, ultrasound showed normal baby at 22 weeks so I am not to worried, however I have a friend due a week earlier than me who has gained 26lbs thus far. Should there be that great of a difference or is she using the old addage of eating for two?

Re: Weight gain

As for your friend...that's not a very nice thing to say!?
A lot of people gain tons of weight and others gain very little if any. Just because she has gained that much more than you doesn't mean she is over eating. I gained 68lbs and was very bloated due to water retention. I lost 45 lbs 2 weeks after having my baby because a lot of it was water.
I'm am hoping however, that I will gain a more reasonable amount of weight this time around!
Just be glad you are lucky and don't pack on the lbs when pregnant and have a healthy baby!

Re: Weight gain

It depends because everyone is different? Are you both the same size? Underweight, overweight, average-healthy weight? You don't have to answer but those are reasons one women may gain, one may not and others gain the recommended weight at the recommended time. She may be over-eating too? Maybe she has a health issue? You never know and it is hard to compare.

Re: Weight gain

Im 20w6d and I've lost 25 pnds. It all depends, I wouldn't worry much specially with your baby showing as it should be. Some women gain alot, some alittle, some none at all.

Re: Weight gain

I myself am overweight really always have been although this is my third successful pregnancy this is the least I have gained although I really have no appetite with this one. My friend is a very healthy eater now she was a bit chunky before becoming pregnancy by maybe 20lbs not much. I talked to her more about our differences and turns out she gained 80lbs with her first child and took her 4 years to knock it off just in time to concieve this one. She explained that it was more cultural that she eat up to 8 meals per day so that makes sense. Don't get me wrong I don't want to gain an over amount of weight (as if I need it) I am just slightly worried that I have no appetite and am limeting what my baby recieves. My first daughter I went overboard and hit 55lbs, the second I went just under 40. So I am a little wiereded out by the only 5lb gain at 24weeks. But your right Orange so far she (gracie) is developing alright, I am much more antsy with this pregnancy having been unsuccesful in concieving in 7 years and when I did we lost them to m/c's I know my doctor is probably a bit flustered with me lol. We weren't able to get a doppler on her until she was 20 weeks so I kept demanding ultrasounds to ensure she was allright have had 4 now. Being overweight didnt help the doppler but I also was told upon the last viset that I use my stomach muscles to breath and this interrupts what they are trying to find. Well another appointment tomarrow so off to bed. Thank you

Re: Weight gain

I can definitely relate to all of you here in regards to little to no weight gain...This is now week 33 for me and I haven't gained a pound...Now, of course, I was overweight to begin with and I am pretty tall too, 6' to be exact, so those things together may have something to do with it...I am 26 and this is my first child, a girl..I am having a planned c on Dec 21st so getting a little anxious...My doctor says that the baby is measuring fine and that it appears as if she is just 'taking everything from me'...She just laughs at this point and says I should be thankful...I am beginning to be, since after the horror stories I have heard about big time weight gain during preg. and how hard it is to get the weight off later....Well,good luck everyone!
