I am 15 weeks pregnant w/ first baby 2nd pregnancy. I m/c in april which did not have anything to do w/ the fibroids. Apparently it was "natures way of taking care of nature." I have uteran fibroids on the outside of my uterus which are rather large. I have already have 2 sonograms to track them and the pregnancy all appears fine. My doctor is having me followed by a high-risk speacialist b/c the fibroids put me at risk for pre-term labor. My doctor tells me that fibroids are more of a pain and discomfort during pregnancy more than anything else and can become very painful later in the pregnancy.
I was just wondering if anyone out there has experienced this as well.
i had/have them also, with my first pregnancy we just measured them everytime until the baby was twice thier sizes. the fibroids caused total placenta previa which did cause preterm labor, bleeding, and a c-section... but i didn't have any bed rest until the last two weeks and my son is perfect. my doctor told me not change the way i am at all but if there is pain just to relax.
the only fear is that there is a higher chance of m/c until the baby is more than double the size of the fibroid - because the tumors need a blood supply and if they are close the the baby they can take the supply away from the baby. but the only thing that can be done is monitor it. but since your's are on the outside. i wouldn't worry to much about that.
this prenancy i go on thursday to find out how big the are and what risks they may impose.

ready to put my body back together!
Hello. I am 12 weeks along and I also have fibroids. My doc said they are located at the top of my uterus and really shouldn't pose a problem, only possibly more cramping during the pg. She also said, depending where they're located, you may possibly have to have a C-section. She too said they are going to be monitored closely for their size, since I guess the possibility of them growing is very high. I've already had 3 u/s, and due for another one in 2 weeks. The funny thing with my situation and the fibroids, until I was pg, I had no idea I even had them! No complications. Never had cramps and I only had a period that was 1-2 days. Then bam, get pg, and everything changes.
This is my first pg so I admit, I am a little naive. I'm trying not to just take my docs word for it. Everytime I see her, I'm there with a list of questions, which thanks to this thread, I'll also ask about that "baby double the fibroid size" question because she never mentioned that to me.
Good luck with everything. Let me know how you guys and your fibroids are!
Sorry i didnt reply sooner. I am glad to hear that you both have pretty much the same thing going as i do that makes me feel better. My doctors have both told me that I b/c of the location of my fibroids I will probably need a c-section, which is fine w/ me. I don't care how I have my baby as long its healthy. I was told about the fibroids need for a blood supply and that they usually do tend to get bigger w/ the pregnancy, however, the speacialist that I am also seeing told me that they usually stop growing at about 20 weeks b/c the baby takes the blood supply away from them at that point. Have you heard anything like that before?
So far I have not had any real issues, other than the usual uncomfort that I used to get right before my period which I am used to, however, my doctor told me that in some cases later in the pregnancy the fibroids can cause such pain that women have had to be hospitalized for a few days w/ a morpine drip -- ugh! Hopefully that will not be something that we will not have to experience.
These fibroids are killing me! I have 5- 2 right, 2 top, 1 biggee on left. They are all on the outside of the uterus. I have been off work and literally resting for 5 days because the pain has been excruciating. Tylenol does NOTHING. It's like eating candy. Anyway, this isn't the first time I've had these pains. The first was exactly 1 month ago and I went thru the same cycle- pain, rest, no work, etc. I cannot imagine going thru this pain for the next 5 or 6 months. I also spotted this time, which was a first for me. Both times came around the time I would've had a period, but my doc said there is no correlation between the two.
Anyway, at 21 weeks, I'll also be seeing a high-risk specialist. Supposedly, this is the time when the fetus is "viable" (which I thought was a pretty ignorant thing to tell me).
I am at the point when I am DREADING the middle of the month, because I am so fearful of these cramps. And the doc said there isn't anything she could do, just to rest, ice packs, stupid tylenol, etc.
Has anyone else with fibroids gone thru anything remotedly like this, or have this many fibroids? I am about 13-14 weeks along and suffering:-(
