20wk u/s on Fri - What could I eat to help baby be active??

My 20 wk u/s is on Friday 11am. Any tips of what to eat that morning to help ensure that the baby is active instead of curled up and still. We really what to know if out little one is a boy or a girl. And how long after you eat something does it usually affect the baby? Like, if you eat spicy or sweet foods how long afterward does it make the baby start moving around?

Thanks!

I found for me that chocolate milk made my little one active on the ultrasounds and anytime for that matter. It usually took maybe 20-30 mins. Mine kept moving so much they couldn't tell it was a girl until almost 7 months.

Apple Juice is very good, it worked for me! But trying to make your little one active can be a double edge sword. If he/she is too active the tech may not be able to see their parts.

Re: 20wk u/s on Fri - What could I eat to help baby be active??

I will be going in to find out the sex of our baby as well in a few weeks time and was wondering the same thing! I just know you can't drink milk or cream before the u/s because it can cloud the images. Everytime I've gone in for an u/s (I've had 4 in total between my 2 pregnancies so far) my little one has always been active and moving. With my first the tech could tell right away the gender and wrote it down on our report but we decided not to find out. That was hard, knowing all I had to do was call my OB's office!! My husband didn't want to know though so I wasn't allowed!
I'm going to try eating a chocolate bar or something before I start drinking my water...that will hopefully work! I always wait until 5 minutes before the hour before the u/s and chug the 40 ozs of water all at once.

Just curious, but why do you want it to be active? An active baby is harder to ultrasound. It makes taking measurements harder. And as I learned, it makes finding the sex harder.

Re: 20wk u/s on Fri - What could I eat to help baby be active??

For my 20 week scan I had a iced cappaccino right before the scan. I bought it on the way that way I didn't drink it too soon so the baby was active during the scan. It worked for me and I found out the sex. They say when ultrasounding babies are more likely to move anyway because of soundwaves expressed by the machine.

Re: 20wk u/s on Fri - What could I eat to help baby be active??

I was told by the u/s tech that activity is good during the u/s in order to find the baby's sex as opposed to the baby being curled up and no tmoving at all.

I had some spicy chicken and a coke before I went. My little one was active within 20 mins. She could tell right away it was a boy!! Also if the baby isn't moving as much she may shake your belly to wake it up. My son wouldn't move out of my pelvic area (and still hasn't, think he's ready to come out TOO soon) so she could get a good look at his face, and when she shook my tummy (which felt good lol) it worked!

Re: 20wk u/s on Fri - What could I eat to help baby be active??

Keep in mind, your baby might be active and you just might not be able to feel it. I was soo worried that something was wrong before my u/s. i drank a small bottle of cranberry juice right before. This usually gets my lil one moving like crazy. there was no movement and I was convinced they were going to tell me something horrible, i was so convinced that when the tech started, i held my breath until I could see the heartbeating. Also, my little one was very active, just not where i could feel it.

Re: 20wk u/s on Fri - What could I eat to help baby be active??

I have been feeling my baby since 16wks 5days. Some days more than others. I have had some other ultrasounds already and at 9wks and 13wks the baby was nice and active! So hopefully we'll have no problem! I jsut really hope to find out if its a boy or a girl!!

Re: 20wk u/s on Fri - What could I eat to help baby be active??

When I want to feel baby move alot, I drink some koolaid or apple juice. Anything sugary. Caffeinated drinks they say not to drink because the caffeine has a reverse affect on the baby, it actually can slow down their breathing. Just curious why you want the little one to be so active during the u/s. It sometimes makes it harder for them to tell if the baby is too active. Good luck
