Re: eating black licorice

I've heard that black licorice (REAL black licorice, not the fake kind little kiddies eat) is one of the foods that supposedly can help start labor, just like the spicy food saying etc. since this is my first baby, I don't have any experience with foods starting labor, sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Re: eating black licorice

There are so many herbs and things that they say an start preterm labour but I think it would have to be an excessive amount, I woudnt panic your only eating a few pieces and Im sure its not the concentrated real stuff

Re: eating black licorice

Man if spicey food caused premature labor I should have had my baby months ago! I can't get enough of that. YOu know what, I just don't think you should read articles about everything you eat and drink. There are so many things out there to scare us women that if we read EVERYTHING on the food we liked then I think we'd all be starving! If you have any concerns I'd call your dr. But enjoy your pregnancy as much as you can..also the food - yum!! Good luck sweetie!

Re: eating black licorice

Licorice in the highly concentrated form taken in high amounts could "potentially" cause pre-term labor.

Please know that a normal, healthy person without a high risk pregnancy is not as at risk as someone with a high risk pregnancy.

Same as orgasm during pregnancy...unless you are high risk for pre-term labor there is nothing to worry about.

On a good note, black licorice is great for digestion and stomach alments...like reflux! YUCK!
