Pregnancy after Depo

I have been off of the Depo-Provera birth control shot for 9 months now. My last shot was in April of 05'. I just got my first period last month (Dec). I bought an ovulation kit and I'm STILL not ovulating. Does anyone know how long it takes to become fertile again? For that matter, I thought me getting my period meant I WAS fertile again! Help!

Re: Pregnancy after Depo

Well, i have been off depo since March 04 and im still not ovulating properly or sometimes at all, i am now seeing a fertility specialist due to this.

They say that it can take up to 2 years before you concieve and i have heard of some people where it has taken more than 6 and that was only with help.

I went to see my doctor on month 9 off depo and he advised that i have 3 months of bbt charts before he would refer me, i got those charts, he carried out lots of blood test i was then refered to a gynecologist who tested dh sperm count, put me on Norethisterone to make me have af and then they thought that would be it - WELL IT WASNT!

Because i was not ovulating he then booked me in for a Hystosalpingogram of which they could not carry out fully as they could not get the catheter through my cervix, he then did an ultrasound and saw nothing and then they did a Laparoscopy where they said everything internally was fine its just i wasnt ovulating (of which i could have told them by my charts!)

On being discharged from the hospital after my Laparoscopy i was put onto Clomid and had to have blood tests every month to check my progesterone levels, he then saw me one more time and reffered me to an infertility clinic who have given me a further 3 months on clomid and then i go onto the IVF waiting list and should proceed with this in July of this year.

Anyway sorry to go on but i do believe that depo is the cause of my infertility although i can not prove this but before depo i had af on time each month without fail.

I would advise you see a doctor and discuss your problem and concerns with them and go from there.

Good luck and i hope you dont have to wait as long as i have so far for a pg, 22 long months of heartache and dissapointment and im still waiting!!!

Re: Pregnancy after Depo

I don't think I am ovulating either since coming off depo. My last shot was Dec 04. I finally got my periods back after getting Prometrium for the doctor in October. I started using OPKs this month and so far I haven't gotten a surge. It's CD 15 now. I thought getting my periods back would mean I was normal again too.

Good luck! Wish I could help you out, but I'm in the same boat.

Re: Pregnancy after Depo

Thanks guys...Well I have my annual pap in April...that gives me 3 more months to see if I ovulate...If not by then I will speak to my gyno again about it...Because when I call up there to inquire about it now they tell me 'oh well it can take up to 18 months for your cycles to get back to normal again and for you to start back ovulating again'...So me complaining at only 9 months? Yeah I'm pretty much getting blown off...LOL....Then I wonder too if I'm just being impatient...It's just that I've been on depo before when I was younger and didn't have this problem...Maybe it's age...I'm not 19 anymore that's for sure...Thanks again for you feedback...I will keep you posted.
