TV probe?

Hi everyone,

My OB wants me to go in for an ultrasound tomorrow. I looked at the prescription she wrote out, and it says "obstetric ultrasound, pelvic ultrasound and TV probe if indicated." Has anyone had a TV probe? It sounds scary and painful! I'm hoping the "if indicated" part means I may not need to have it done! I'm so nervous!

Laura

Re: TV probe?

I'm gonna take a guess that it means trans-vaginal probe or trans-vaginal ultrasound. I think. If that's what it is, it's no big deal. It's sort of like a stick that they place in the vagina to look at the cervix and things low against the cervix that they can't see on the regular ultrasound. It's not painful. You can hardly feel it since they lubricate it so much. I think the examination the OB does with his hand is way more uncomfortable.
Again, just a guess.

Re: TV probe?

hi laura
it is like the previous poster says.
i had a tv probe in my first pg as i was early pg and they were checking to confirm my m/c she could see nothing in my womb from normal u/s so checked with tv probe as it gets closer and can see more. it does not hurt and is a bit like a pap test but no speculum. they use them when scanning early in pg not just for m/c like in my case so don't be worried by my reason for having one.
in short it is nothing to worry about it is used to get a clear picture early in pregnancy if normal u/s picture is not very clear. i bet you are looking forward to seeing your little one it is great to see them on the screen watching them makes it seems so real. best of luck.
