Exclamation Blood and protein in urine

I am 9 weeks pregnant and have had blood in my urine and protein is slightly elevated. Has anyone else experienced this and should I be concerned? Are these normal symptoms during early pregnancy. I don't have dark urine or pain or overly frequent urination, common signs of UTI or bladder infections. My culture for infection came back negative. Any clues of what can be going on? Thanks.

Re: Blood and protein in urine

Well... I have blood and protien in my urine and I am 37 weeks pregnant. I have a kidney disease called IgA Nephropathy. I found this out about 2 years ago through a kidney biopsy. I haven't heard that it is common in pregnancy, has your doc seemed like you should be worried about this or what? Is thsi the first time that you have ever had blood or protien? Maybe you should see a nephrologist. (kidney specialist)

Re: Blood and protein in urine

I had a visit with a kidney specialist. He said the baby was ok and whatever is causing it is benign. He said it could be IGA Nephropathy or thin basement membrane disease, but he'd have to do a biopsy to be sure and he doesn't feel my current condition warrants a biopsy. Is your doctor concerned that you have this and are pregnant? Is there anything you have to do special? What are the symptoms your experience? I have no painful urination or anything that would be common to a urinary tract infection. It's been stable since September.

Re: Blood and protein in urine

That is exactly the two that my doc told me it could be. I really don't have symptoms now... it's weird. When I had the biopsy done my doc said that it wasn't in the very active stages yet. She said it was bearly there, but it was IGA Nephropathy. My symptoms before when I was going to the doc to see what was wrong with me was dark blood in my urine, and it burned when I had to pee. It was very strange. They did a cystoscapy (not sure the spelling) which was very painful to check and see if I had polyps inside my bladder, and when he saw nothing he said I needed to go to the nephrologist to get further checked out because it was a kidney problem. My doc hasn't been worried at all about me having this disease, they make sure and check my bloodpressure though because that is one of the symptoms of IgA. Haven't had high blood pressure yet though and I am 39 weeks tomorrow YAY! It's Almost over!!! Good luck! Biopsy sounds painful, but it's really not bad at all!!! If you have one tell them you are very nervous about it and they will give you the BEST "No Care in the world" medicine and it will be like it never even happened!

Re: Blood and protein in urine

I just did a search for this thread. The strip test they did at the hospital last night detected blood in my urine but the nurses didn't know why. There were no signs of
infection. It makes me wonder why, though. I'll discuss it with my doc next week.
