OK, I went into labor yesterday around 3pm, but when I got to the hospital they gave me a shot to stop my contractions because I wasn't quite 37wks yet. My contractions stopped, but now this morning I am still really crampy, and am still loosing my mucas plug (which started coming out yesterday after the contractions started).
Has anyone ever had this shot before that stops contractions, and did you go into labor again soon after? I was told I could go back into labor at any time, but I just wanted to know other people's experiences b/c they also told me if I went back into labor they wouldn't try to stop it this time, and I'm a little anxious now.
Thanks for ANY info!!!
By the way, I was 1 1/2 centimeters dialated and 60% effaced Monday, and by yesterday evening was at 3 centimeters and 70%, and when they checked me before I went home, I was 3 1/2 centimeters dialated and 80 to 90% effaced (if that help at all).

I am so jealous that you are going to have your little one soon! I'm 35 wks tomorrow and was hoping to go around 37 or 38 wks.
As far as I know, if your baby wants to come, the shot will only work for that particular time. Sobanno went through the same thing and still went into full labour and had her baby a week after being admitted. I'm sure how many times she needed the meds though to stop her labour (I spell it the Canadian way...sorry!).
Good luck to you and let us know okay!
I am also 36+5 weeks and am dialated to 2.5 and 80% effaced I am on bed rest to help with contractions and waiting till baby is 37 weeks and till my dh gets home from Tx. I have not heard of the shot - its good to know there are things to stop labor until your baby is of age (or in my case till my dh getts home ) I just hope I make it until thursday afternoon - when he gets home I am up and at em to have a baby Good luck to you and congrats on a soon to be little person
I think it could depend on how many babies you've had too. My third one (which was actually second vaginal birth) came very quickly. I went to the hospital and was 3 centimeters (don't know how much effaced though) and they told me to go walk around for 2 hours. This was at 10 pm. I walked around for 20 minutes and I started getting pain so bad, I couldn't walk anymore, so I went back to l&d. They checked me again and I was 8 centimeters. I had him at 11:30 pm that night. So, you never know. You could start dilating very quickly. If you have pain, go to the hospital for sure.
This is very exciting because you know it won't be long before you hold your little one in your arms. I had my son at 36wks and 5 days. My labor wasn't stopped but I had been monitored closely by high risk doctors and had ultra sounds done twice a month for 5 months. So they knew that my baby was healthy and the lungs were developed and so forth. I have a friend however who did have the shots to stop her labor and her son was born healthy 2 days later. She had contractions the next day after shots but he came 2 days later. Hope this helps.
Almost ticks you off that they stopped the contractions eh!? 2 days off from 37 wks. I think they should have just given you the shot to help mature the baby's lungs and let it be! How mad will you be now if you don't go into labour until a week after your due date!
I don't think that will happen though... Just keep active, walking and house cleaning. Also, apparently eating beets helps, oh and fresh pineapple!
Good luck, hope to hear the good baby new soon!
I know how ready you are to see your little one. If your read my post about our son born fast with no labor pain, youwill see that I tried everything I could think of to speed up dialation and to have contractions but the only thing that eventually worked was prayer. I believe it won't be much longer for you though because you are having contractions and a clue that something is going on. I had been 3cm dialated for 5 days with no labor pain or anything so, I didn't know when I going to have our son. My doc. had said she thought I would by the weekend, but nothing happen until that Sunday and even then I wasn't sure they would keep me in the hospital because I didn't feel any contractions. So when they told me I was in labor and the head was coming out, I was more than excited. It is was the not knowing that really made me anxious. It will be soon for you, I just know it, plus I am sending some healthy and safe delivery soon prayers up on your behalf as well.
DS was born at 36 1/2 weeks. I just felt blah all week long. Had a doctor's appointment on Wednesday and Thursday night I woke up with with what I thought was mucus. Went to the doctor and they said I was only 1/2 cm dialated. Friday night I had contractions all night long. Finally couldn't stand it anymore -- I'd called the doctor/hospital several times and they told me I couldn't be in labor it was too soon -- finally had DH drive me to the hospital for a check and DS was born at 3 the next morning. He was 7 pounds 8 ounces and 18" long.
