stitches

does anyone know if there is anything that you can put on your stitches so they won't hurt as much?

Re: stitches

Pads soaked with witchhazel helps alot. It is soothing and promotes healing. Also, keeping the area as dry as possible. After a shower or bath I always used the hair dryer and it helped with feeling clean as well. I noticed my stitches stopped hurting about 2 weeks after delivery and I had a 3rd degree episiotomy. Hang in there! It gets better very quickly!
Oh and take sitz baths. Fill the tub about half way and just soak in there for a while. It helps to keep the area clean and the warm water feels good down there as well.

Re: stitches

Dermoblast or dermoplast spray. They gave me a bottle of it at the hospital. When I'd use the rest room, I would spray myself with the spray bottle of warm water, then I'd blot with toilet paper or witch hazel pads -- specifically for your lower region (find them in the hemoroid section at the drug store), then I'd hose myself off with the demoplast spray. ahhhh!

Re: stitches

The hospital where I delivered had pads soaked in water and/or witch hazel and then frozen available for us. Just place one wrapped in an old washcloth or cloth in your undies. It helps with swelling and healing.

Re: stitches

I've heard that some places actually have cooling sanitary pads. What I'd have given for some of those! A couple of times I'd sit in the bathroom with a bag of ice cubes in my lap.
