info wanted on labor status

hi all - I am just wanting to know where you all think I am at in my labor - if I still have a while or if I should stay close to the hospital. - Thanks

I had a doctors appt today - this is not my first child - I have a tendency to go fairly quickly - I am 2.5 dialted 90% effaced and at -2 station this is the first I have ever heard of stations and effaced. THanks in advance your any information I am just so excited about having this baby

Re: info wanted on labor status

I am no expert by any means (this is my first) but my doc says that once you get to 80-90% effaced (meaning your cervix is thinned out 80-90% of the way) then you are really close to going...But she said that to me bc I am a first time mom (she says that effacement is much more important in first time moms than in others) So this may not really be that significant in your case....But 90% seems to be pretty close to me!

Re: info wanted on labor status

Are you actually in labor or did you just get checked, with my first I was 90% effaced and dialated to three for four weeks. It could be anytime or awhile yet.

Re: info wanted on labor status

I have been having contractions for about an hour now - they are about 20 min apart - they are still very mild. I went for my reg ob visit - I am just curious on the status because If I dont have the baby naturally by this weekend I will be induced wed. The contractions have been like this for a couple of days they will last an hour or two then go away.

Re: info wanted on labor status

It means that you are very much thinned out and the station means where the head is positioned to your pelvis. If you are at -2 station, that means the head is below the pelvis. If you could look it up in a pregnancy book or on-line you will find out much more information about that.
