My LMP was 2/25 so I guess I'm about 4 or 5 weeks pregnant. I don't have too many symptoms, just slightly sore nipples and very mild occasional nausea.
I'm a little concerned that I've lost a few pounds. Is that harmful to the baby this early on?
I take prenatal and folic acid supplemnts. I also try to eat healthy food like orange juice, string cheese and watermellon, and nuts. The problem is that prior to this pregnancy, I had a bad diet with a lot of junk food and I've never liked healthy food. I'm finding that I don't really like healthy foods so much so I don't overeat ever (probably under eat). Now that I've cut out most the candy and junk, I seem to be losing weight.
Is it better to eat junk (in addition to healthy foods) to maintain or gain weight, or to only eat healthy foods and lose a small amount of weight?
This probably seems like a silly question, but I just can't seem to eat enough healthy food to maintain or gain weight. (I've probably lost 3 to 5 pounds in the last couple of weeks).
Firstly, it's not such a problem to lose weight in early pregnancy. It's later on that you'll need to start gaining.
Secondly, your 3-5 lb estimate may well be off. If you've been cutting out junk food, you've probably lowered your sodium intake, in which case, you'll be losing water weight.
If you're really worried about not eating enough, try have some healthy starches before you eat protein. Protein fills you up pretty quickly.
I wouldn't worry about a few pounds as long as you are eating. I changed the way I was eating when I became pregnant and didn't gain any weight in the first tri. I am 34wks and have gained somewhere around 10lbs I think. I was over weight to begin with though.
i havent gained any weight yet and am just starting to eat better and im in my 16th wk i believe, im due nov 27.. i did loose weight between checkups and then go back up and then back down. but they dont seem to be too concerned...
I didn't gain any weight until the end of my 4th month. Now I'm in my 6th month and it's coming on fast. Don't worry, if your baby and your body need the weight.....it will come.
