Sugar safe?

I've read that splenda is too new to have good research results done with pregnant mothers and their babies....so, i've decided to stay away from it during my pregnancy...however, is real sugar better?

Re: Sugar safe?

From what I've read, yes. Splenda and other sugar substitutes are on my list of 'avoid as much as possible' whereas sugar is never mentioned.

Not that its healthy to have a lot of sugar, but its better than artificial sweeteners.

Re: Sugar safe?

Splenda is o.k. in moderation...or atleast that is what they recommend for those with gd. Aspertame seems to be the big no no. I think natural is better if you can tolerate it and everything in moderation.
But my biggest suggestion is to not worry about every little thing you put in your mouth. Years ago people drank and smoked and their kids (many of us!!!) turned out fine. I am not saying we should do that but I really don't believe in depriving myself of anything besides alcohol and cigarettes/smoke (a none issue for me) as well as most pharmacy/over the counter drugs. If you stress about it all you won't enjoy your pregnancy for fear you've exposed yourself somehow.
With ds, who is 3, I ate everything I would normally eat, drank lots of water, took my vitamins and avoided the above items I listed and he's the most normal child you could meet.
Good luck!
