My blood work results came today except that My progesterone is only 16 at 6 weeks. The nurse has prescribed prometrium; vaginal capsules to supplement for the low progesterone.
My HCG is 12000 and normal at 6 weeks. I my BBG appt is only on 4/19. The nurse recommends that I use this supplement until 12 weeks, after 12 weeks the placenta is supposed to produce the progesterone by itself.
Has anyone gone through this earlier? What has your experience been with Prometrium? I am really worried.
I was on the progesterone suppositories AND progesterone shots for my first 12 weeks. A normal practice for those who go through IVF. Especially those of us at advanced age!
Anyway, nothing to worry about. It will indeed help produce the progesterone your body is needing. I used the suppositories only in the evening. Wear a light panty liner to bed and that's all you'll need. I had no side effects.
Here is some additional information about my situation. I am 29 yrs old and we conceived naturally, we tried for about 3 months. However, when TTC my progesterone was low too.
I am overjoyed that I concieved naturally and I want to sustain this. Your experiences with this will be very helpful to me. Should I be concerned about anything about about taking prometrium suppositories? I have not been recommended shots.
I had no side effects at all. Some say they get sleepy, but since I used them at night, this worked for me! I also was on only one a day. The shots made my bum sore, but that was all. If you feel any discomfort, vaginal or urinary burning, or cramping, tell your doctor. I had none of these though.
They can be a little messy, so therefore the panty liner.
