It sounds like your wife is having acid reflux which is very common in pregnancy. The stomach gets all jammed up in the ribs and the acid is forced upwards. Eating smaller, more frequent meals helps and it's also safe for her to take tums and some other antacids, but she should probably check with her doctor first. Tums have helped me a lot.

The numbness in the hands is also normal - I've had it since about week 25 and it has developed into Carpal Tunnel syndrome. It should go away after pregnancy.
