Could I be losing my plug?

I'm almost 37 weeks with a baby that was 6.8 lbs on Wednesday, so I'm guessing she's 7 lbs now! I'm having some slimy discharge. Not a whole lot yet, but still noticable. Could I be losing my plug? How long can it take after that happens? Within a week or so? Thanks for any info. *excited!!!*

Re: Could I be losing my plug?

Well, more has been coming out and I have cramps, so I think something is happening.

Re: Could I be losing my plug?

I'm taking some childbirth classes so I can only describe what's been described to me (I'm on my first baby). The plug usually looks like snot (forgive me). It may be colored and it could have some blood. But essentially it looks like snot. The nurse that teaches our class said you could go into labor close to losing your plug to about 1 1/2 weeks later. Like losing your water, some women will break many many hours before to not breaking at all until being forced to break. Some women don't notice early labor and go right into transitional labor. Bottom line, everyone is different. But the truth remains..........

You're on your way!!!

good luck!!!!

Re: Could I be losing my plug?

Yeah mine is "snotty" and similar to ovulation CM. It's clear and tinted and I had a lot more this morning with some more cramps!!! Still not many contractions, though. My appointment is Wednesday, so I suppose they can tell me if I'm dialating.

Re: Could I be losing my plug?

Just remember to count your contractions! If they are coming 3-5 min apart in an hour, go to the hospital.

Good Luck Paula! And don't forget to let us know what happens.

Re: Could I be losing my plug?

Thanks! So far the contractions are still random (all day), but I'm still losing the plug and not feeling well! They scheduled my induction for April 26th but I really think it's going to happen sooner than that!!!

Re: Could I be losing my plug?

It sounds like you are well on your way to having that baby! Make sure to notice the discharge because if it starts to get like water you might be leaking water which is a good thing! right now it sounds like you are losing your plug, slowly, but still loosing it none-the-less. You are probably starting to dialate or I would assume so. At your appt. if you arent dialating, or not taking it already, ask about EPO (primrose oil) I've been taking it and so far am 2 cm but I think I am more ill let you know my appt is in like 5 minutes

let us know!

Good luck!!!

Always,
Denise

Re: Could I be losing my plug?

Denise, we're both pretty close. When is your due date? I *may* be leaking water. This might be TMI but my pad feels wet sometimes. Come on Chloe, let me see you soooobon!

Re: Could I be losing my plug?

Strange, I never noticed my plug with my first. Not before, during or after labour. Maybe I lost it on one of my night trips to the bathroom!? So far with this one (am 37.4 wks) I have been having tons of contractions and BH's but no plug again! Maybe there is something wacky about me....
Good luck and keep us posted!

Re: Could I be losing my plug?

baby, I didn't notice my plug with my first either. I also think things are starting to get going with this one - tons of contractions/cramps, nothing at all regular though - and no plug again. I was thinking along the lines that you are with my nighttime pee trips.

also just wanted to mention to paula and denise that it's not necessarily a good thing if you are leaking water if you don't go into active labor within 24 to 48 hours. The risk of infection is very high after that amount of time. If you think you may be leaking, definitely get checked out. If you are chances are they'll induce you within 24 hours.

Re: Could I be losing my plug?

Do contractions start right away if you leak fluid?

I just woke up. Had some cramps. My pad is full with what looks like
light pink fluid and when I wipe (sorry, gross), there's just a hint of blood
with no discharge. I feel fine right now...no cramps or contractions.
Maybe I just lost the rest of my plug..???

Not sure if I should wake my husband up or not!

Re: Could I be losing my plug?

I know its not a good thing, I did go and get it checked out and they didnt seem too worried about it so maybe it wasnt? Oh well it should be soon now since I offically lost my plug last night woohoo and alot of cramping and stuff but irregular still.

Always,

Denise

Re: Could I be losing my plug?

Denise, same with me! I see my doc tomorrow, though.
I had leaking last night but it stopped. Kind of frustrating. I wish
it would just happen.
