Question Pomegranate Juice - any bad effects

I've been hearing about how great pomegranate juice is and have decided to drink a glass everyday. However, I just wanted to find out if there are any bad effects from it b/c I'm planning on drinking so much of it throughout my pregnancy. Has anyone ever read or heard about pomegranate juice? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Re: Pomegranate Juice - any bad effects

Actually, my Mom bought me a couple Pomegranate's when I was about 4 or 5 months prego and I didn't eat them. I had literally just read that the juice can cause uterine contractions that lead to miscarriage or premature labour. If I were you I would read up on it on the net before having another sip!

I haven't had pomegranate juice straight, but have had the combination pomegranate with blueberry which is really good. I've been drinking it throughtout the pregnancy and am now at 7 1/2months with no issues. As for the juice straight up, I'm not sure.

Re: Pomegranate Juice - any bad effects

Straight pomegranates and their juice and sauce have been a staple of the Persian diet for years. I mean, of course, check with your doctors, but I can't imagine there would be adverse affects with this wonderful, natural food. I had 1-2 entire pomegranates a day early in my pregnancy when they were in season and nothing happened. Whenever I hear about natural things causing uterine contractions I tend to assume that is only if you are already very near term and just need a teeny boost to get you going.

I say eat and drink away. After all, in many cultures the pomegranate is the symbol of fertility!!

Re: Pomegranate Juice - any bad effects

Ok, so I just did a quick search on pomegranate juice during pregnancy and apparently what I had heard was complete crap!!! Just goes to show you that you can't believe everything your read or hear!!!!
It actually is suppose to help with brain development and stuff in the fetus. Now I regret having not eatten them!!!
Anyway, do a quick search for the trimester you are in and just double check. I'd have for all of us to say "drink up" and have something happen!
