I had my first u/s today and I'm 6 weeks along. The doctor saw the heartbeat in one (and one empty sac which might be a blighted ovum). The doctor said now that there is a heartbeat there is less than 5% chance of misscarriage.

I was wondering if this is true. I asked my doctor how fast the heartbeat was and he said it didn't matter at this stage since the baby was so young.

Does anyone know if it's true that there is less than 5% chance of miscarriage after hearing a heartbeat? I haven't told anyone other than my hsuband, and I want to wait until I'm sure that a miscarriage is very unlikely to tell my family.

I was told it was less than 10%.

I don't know the percentage but I am glad you 2 were told something. I had an ultrasound at almost 6 weeks and the heartbeat was 103 and I was told it was too low. Other people thought it was strange because like your Doctor said, it was too young yet and the heart was just starting to form then. However my Doctor put me on medication and way and I have made it to 11 weeks now. I think every Doctor thinks different things and I had previous problems so every pregnancy is different. I am sure you will be fine.

I was also told 10% after seeing a heartbeat, and 2% after 12 weeks.

I have also been told less than 10% once a h/b is detected. Until then the chances are much higher at around 20 to 25%.
I had an u/s done at 6 weeks with this baby as well and the bpm was 113. I started freaking out because I heard it was suppose to be around 160!

I studies this on the net for a whole day and discovered that at 6 weeks anywhere around the 100 to 115 mark or so is healthy and exactly where it should be. If it's below 80 then the chance of miscarriage is much higher, but not definite.
I am sorry to hear they have only detected one h/b so far. Maybe the other one was just in a funny position. Let us know how that goes...

Thanks everyone for all the advice. I go in on 4/24 so I should find out if the other baby is okay or absorbed.
