Porgesterone-how Long?

I am approaching my 12th week. My Doctor put me on progesterone because I wasn't making enough hormones on my own to make the placenta work well. He said I would need to take it until my 12th week and then the placenta should start taking over and working properly on it's own without progesterone. I was wondering if this worked for anyone else in my situtation? Did the placenta work after 12 weeks or did you have to continue to take it past the 12 weeks and why?

Re: Porgesterone-how Long?

This is my 4th pregnancy using Progesterone suppositories. All of my doctors have said that it is safe to stop after you reach 12 weeks. I did that with my 3 older kids, and never had any problems.

When I was 12 weeks this time, I had almost a month of suppositories left. I asked my doctor if I could take the rest of them rather than throw away $50 worth of medicine.

She said I could because there was a study that claimed prolonging the progesterone could contribute to the baby's having a higher I.Q.

I finished the bottle I had, then went off of them. Again, I did not have any complications.

I think you are safe either way.
