concerned about odd fetal movements

i have been feeling very strange fetal movements for some time. it's almost like the baby is vibrating or shaking really fast, and it doesn't last long. sometimes you can see my stomach shake. is this normal? has anyone else experienced this type of fetal movement? it's seems odd to me and i worry that the baby is having a seizure or something. i don't remember feeling this sort of movement with my first pregnancy, but that was 7 years ago. any input would be greatly appreciated.

Re: concerned about odd fetal movements

Is it very rapid, like a vibration of sorts? Or slow/rhythmic, like hiccups?

If it seems like rapid shaking, I'd run it by the doctor to get his/her input.

I never felt anything like that when I was pregnant with my son. I'd go see my doctor ASAP if I was you...
Good luck, I hope everything is alright!!

Re: concerned about odd fetal movements

I feel that all the time!!! I am 39.5 wks now and I still feel it. I also was concerned when I first felt it and I still wonder what the heck he's doing in there! Everything is fine with the baby though so it's just something funky he's doing in there!
I did ask the OB about this and he said any movement is good. An active babe means a healthy babe!
Check it out with your Doc/midwife if you are concerned but if the h/b is strong and healthy then it's probably nothing!
I also didn't feel this with my first. Must be a second baby thing!

I swear I had an alien living inside me the last two months -- he was doing sommersaults, spinning around, dancing -- Was a wild boy!

Re: concerned about odd fetal movements

I have a busy little shaker/vibrator too and my first was nothing like that. Someone else asked months ago about this, fearing seizures. I asked my midwife and baby's cannot seizure in utero.
So it's just normal movements of an active baby.

I've have felt movements like that too. I was worried also and asked my doctor. I was told they were normal. I've also had two ultrasounds since they started and everything is fine. I didn't feel them with my first pregnancy either.

Re: concerned about odd fetal movements

I've been a labor and delivery nurse for 25 years. It CERTAINLY is possible for a baby to seizure in utero, although of course I don't know or think that is what's happening at all.

It is not a common complaint, "vibrations" or "shaking" as opposed to vigorous movements. It is very unusual. I'd still ask my doctor.

Re: concerned about odd fetal movements

I had this with 2 of my pregnancys, and all it was was the baby's leg would vibrate due to a immature nervous system...I would say about 3 months after delivery it finally stopped......Ralinda

Re: concerned about odd fetal movements

thanks to all for the responses! i had a doc appointment today and asked about it and he said it was normal, but i felt rushed and brushed off as that was all he said before rushing off... no real reassuring explaination. i have gotten more reasurance from everyones responses here; i find comfort in the fact that so many others have experienced or are experiencing the same thing.

Re: concerned about odd fetal movements

I felt something similar the other night in bed. My husband happened to be snoring so loudly and I felt the baby was reacting to his snoring, and she did not like it one bit. I know I sure didn't. LOL HE HE I really felt that she was punching or kicking me with both feet and legs, it was very rapid and lasted about 30 seconds. That was the only time though I noticed such a reaction from my baby. If she doesn't like her daddy's snoring now, she's not gonna be too happy when we get her home. Yikes.....
