Mel, I'm sorry for taking over your function of starting these threads, but the last one is getting too big for me to navigate, so I hope no one minds transferring over.
I get the question too, and the disappointed looks. I don't understand -- why does it need to be a surprise when the baby is born? When the baby is born there will be enough surprises about it -- the way it looks, the way it sleeps, the way its hands curl in, the curve of its ear, etc. If I find out the sex now, I get to enjoy that surprise now when it's the only one, as opposed to when it's being crowded almost out of importance by everything else that's going on. I don't know -- that's my feeling on it.
i guess this memo confirms that you have well and truely created a new thread congrats. I have only just logged on so i dont know who you are replying to but here is my opinion on the situation.
I will find out what sex the baby is pure and simply because of all that you have said and also because of all the prep that goes into having a baby i want to be one hundred percent sure that i am ready i also dont have the money to go out and make rush buys and with everything coloured for either boy or girl i kinda need to have that early start.
Well good luck to all of you nov mommies oh nearly forgot i am due on the 14th november and just about getting over the morning sickness. I am also avoiding anything that i know will upset my stomach like foods high in fat.
Well, in the meantime the discussion reverted back to the long thread, but since it hasn't shown up in a few days I'm going to try this one again. Sorry folks -- I just can't stand threads over 20 pages long .
I am SOOOO tired, all the time. I brought a pillow and sheet to work, and I collapse around noon for a two hour nap or I can't function past six (I'm usually at work till 8 or 10). Is there an end in sight?
As for looonnnggg threads, you can always change the number of posts that show on each page by going to the "user CP" (user control panel -- not very intuitive!) and changing the number. I have mine set for 40 posts/page, which means I don't have to scroll so much.
I, too, am tired all the time. I'm working part time from home, so I don't have to keep a set schedule. The alarm for DH goes off at 5:30, so I usually get up by then. By 7:30 or 8:00 am, I'm back in bed for a 1/2 or 1 hour nap! Sheesh. And then again mid afternoon for a 2 hour nap. And then to bed by 9:30-10:00pm. You'd think I was sleeping pills or something! And I HATE NAPPING! I feel so groggy later and like I've missed something.
I'm dreaming of the time when I can function relatively normally, with others knowing I'm pregnant without me telling them, and me not wanting to gag at the sight/smell of some foods. That day IS coming, right???
Thank you Xinervelle! My enjoyment from this board just increased dramatically now that I don't have to wait for the page to load every five posts. I know exactly what you mean about how you feel when you've napped. It's like two separate days, and you can't remember what happened in the morning.
I guess I can sympathize with wanting people to know you're pregnant without having to tell them. On the other hand, I kind of like the privacy, that no one's giving me random advice on the street or anything. And I'm working a summer job right now in anticipation of being offered a full-time job when I'm done with school, and I'm glad I'll have the chance to prove myself before it becomes obvious I'm pregnant and I have to deal with people's potentially negative mindframes. On the other hand, being pregnant has certainly affected my work -- not least in that I take a nap every day! -- and as long as people don't know I'm pregnant they might think I can never work for ten hours without taking a nap.
Normal functioning ... now that's something to dream about!
Yay! I've had two entire days without nausea! (celebrate the small things, right??)
Also, we hit our first garage sale and bought baby stuff. For $100 we got a 2 yr-old crib and mattress pad, a baby tent for beach, a Graco swing, a BabyBjorn carrier, and a whole shopping bag full of books and toys. The BabyBjorn was only used once and looks brand new, and the crib just needs a little Old English touchup and it'll be good as new. Yay!
We also met a couple there who were due around Labor Day... we'd met them before when we were building our house and they were considering the same floor plan so the builder had sent them to look at ours while it was under construction. We pulled up one night and they were in the house. We talked for awhile but have never really connected with them since then (3 years ago) except once or twice in grocery stores. I felt like I was "pouncing" on them since they were first couple I'd met who were also pregnant--- I guess I had visions of playdates in my head... Most of my friends and colleagues have kids in their teens and 20s, not toddlers and infants, so I'm feeling a little out of the circuit. Plus, we live in a fairly small town (about 150,000 in the "metro" area) so there aren't alot of formalized ways for new moms to meet each other. Maybe the childbirthing classes will hook us up with some other folks??
Hi ladies. I had my appt. today at the ob/gyn and it went very well. They have me at 12w/3d. My weight is a little much. I have gained 7 lbs. in 4 weeks!! So needless to say, I have to start watching that, but everything else was great and we heard the heartbeat(168) on the doppler and that was great too! I think now that I started to work out again and the nausea is pretty much gone and I can drink water that maybe my weight gain will slow down now, so we shall see in the next few weeks how that all goes. I am also on one baby aspirin a day and somehow this may help prevent me from getting preeclampsia again this time and they also want to see me every two weeks instead of every month to keep a close eye on my b/p and urine, which at the present is excellent, so today was a good day and I just thought I'd share that with you all. THINK PINK!! I hope you are all doing well. We passed on all the blood and other testing. The only one I will have I think is the Level 2 at 18 weeks or so. I can't believe the first trimester is over!! WOO HOO.............Everyone have a super day!! XO
I'm so jealous of you, xinerevelle!!! I've been to so many garage sales in my area, and found nothing. Some even advertised baby gear, but it wasn't that nice, so I didn't want to get some crappy stuff for my first baby.
Are any of you new mom's having showers?? if so, when?? My sister wants to know when she should throw my party.
When are you guys due? Me, November 21. I have my next APPT on the 31st
I'm due on the 15th, and I have my first appt scheduled for the 1st of June. Well, okay -- not really my first appointment, because I did see a doctor in Israel in my 6th week, but all he did was weigh me, take my blood pressure, and order bloodtests and an ultrasound. Apparently, the doctors over there take a much less hands-on approach, but on the other hand, they use the u/s much more frequently. He had me take one right away to see if there was a heartbeat, and another at 10 weeks to date the pregnancy. In the meantime, I haven't seen a doctor, but I don't think it really matters all that much. I know in America it's standard to do a pap smear, but that's really just to see if there'll be problems at delivery, so there's no reason for it to be at 12 weeks, when they usually do it. Or at least, that's my rationalization. No one wants to think she's negligent, right?
bxr-- The pap smear is to check for cervical cancer, and is only done if you haven't had one in the past 12 months. Mine had been 10 months earlier, so they declined to do it again until the 6 week postpartum checkup.
Mel-- Glad you're feeling better! Me, too! Though I'm still tired. I too gained weight at my second appt. (7 lbs), though I think it was more due to constipation from the medication I took for nausea than it was from Baby. Ha! I don't think I'm eating that differently, as far as more food or bad food or anything. I do have to have snacks between meals, or else I'll feel like I'm going to die. And boy, it has to be RIGHT NOW! I can't believe how impatient I've become when it comes to eating.
I'm still drinking 96+ oz of water, juice, and milk a day, so I'm still peeing like crazy. Does this sound weird: I'm thrilled to have a "real" pee as opposed to the dixie-cup amount that I normally go the other 10 times a day. Who knew that I'd be excited over such miniscule things!
I've started picking up a package of diapers and/or wipes when I'm grocery shopping... trying to ease the pain of later... I figure if I do that every so often I'll have a nice stash and can not worry about DH having to make midnight diaper-runs (we've come a long way since those college midnight beer-runs!!!).
I've started looking at crib sets -- am I weird for not wanting something covered in Disney, Dora, or similar? Or something so "cutsey" that it won't fit in with anything else in our house? Where do I find nice crib sets online? I've tried Overstock (some possibilities there) and Domestications (nothing there). Any ideas?
Well, I went to the walk-in today, because I've had more than just the normal cramping, and I've also had some painful urination, and not to mention the bug bites I have on my tummy that hurt oh so bad!!! Well, the doc, did a doppler, just to see if everything was fine. And I was so worried because it took him forever to find the babies heartbeat, and the two times I've had it before, they got it right on when they put the doppler on. I saw his hand move suddenly and he asked if I felt that. And I was like "Felt what"?? He said your baby just kicked and I could hear it kick too. I was like "AWWW" But no I'm only almost 15 wks and I didn't feel it.
im 13 wks 3 days today, due november 29th. had first ultrasound yesterday, it was awesome! i have another one in 5 weeks, was told btw 18-20 wks thats the more accurate date to get measurements, etc... i was so suprised how clear everything looked, cant wait to get the pictures! baby weighed 2 ounces, is this normal?? i was suprised to see how much the baby was moving and bouncing around and that i couldnt feel it. the rest of u sound so strong! i went on sick leave 3 wks ago and im on nausea medication, i found my work to hard to handle during pregnancy even on days that i felt great. good luck to you all! nice to be able to get advise and things from other women due the same month!
2 oz sounds big for this stage. Maybe they meant that there are 2 oz of amniotic fluid?? Most things I've read say that at 13 weeks the baby is between 1/2 to 3/4 of an oz.
No fluttering feeling for me yet -- unless you count gas! Ha! (Trust me, it's NOT the baby...)
hi all, new to healthboards and also a Nov. mommy due on the 7th. I'm 17 weeks and had an ultrasound, (Girl). My doc said she saw girl parts and tried to point them out to me but i'm not good at visualizing those images. Its not too early is it to be saying its definately a girl!! My hubby, I and son are very excited. I still haven't been able to feel her move, I told the Dr. and she didnt seemed concerned because all looked well. Congrats to all of YOU!!!
I've never heard about the pelvic bone tilt with a girl or boy, so I can't help you there, but I just wanted some of you to know that I FELT the baby!! I know it was the baby. I was standing in line paying for my new tires I just had put on my suv and I felt like this twirling feeling in my lower stomach. It was so bizarre, but I know it was NOT gas. So I waited a minute and felt a little twirling again and that was that. I have not felt it again, but I just know it was the baby!! So 12 or 13 weeks is not too early depending on where the baby is located I guess. I was not even thinking of feeling the baby for weeks(13 weeks as of Monday), but I felt it!! I just wanted to share that and let you ladies know I'm glad most of you are feeling better as I also am. I have my next appointment next week and will update you all.
Slayer~ Where are you girlfriend and how have you been? How did your colposcopy go? Please udate us when you can. I just wanted you to know that I was thinking of you woman.
Mel -- that's so cool! I keep thinking that MAYBE I've felt something, but then I've also had some digestive problems this past week, so I don't know whether to write 'em off to that or not.
