Question When does the baby start to move??

I can't seem to remember with my first pregnancy when he started moving.

I have been feeling my little girl move since i was 16 weeks along... some are sooner and some are later as im sure you know... but i would say by 20 weeks you should... maybe... feel him/her

Re: When does the baby start to move??

I just started a similar thread last night....I've been concerned because I'm 22 weeks and I haven't really felt my son move yet.....but I've been told that it's not unusual to not feel/recognize movement until 25 weeks...

Re: When does the baby start to move??

This is my first and when I was 18 weeks I felt the first movement. Once I hit my 20th week she was very active. Definatley counting down the days, I'll be 25 weeks tomorrow!

Re: When does the baby start to move??

I was about 16 weeks and I could feel fluttering. It wasn't until 18-20 where I had what they call "the quickening" and I could feel kicking and movement. But I have read it varies from person to person.

Re: When does the baby start to move??

I started feeling movement around 20 weeks (am 26 weeks now) BUT, I have a friend that didn't feel movement until 28 weeks just because how the baby was positioned and where the placenta was attached, etc.

Re: When does the baby start to move??

yeah it can depend on how the baby is laying, and also on the mothers weight...or so my doctor told me... ill tell you one thing... i was soooo looking forward to feeling her... but now here kicks are not always all that fun ... so enjoy this time of your pregnancy... those kicks will come soon enough

Re: When does the baby start to move??

i felt something strange going on at about 14.5 weeks and was paying a lot of attention to it after that. the same feeling (to me, it felt like tiny little bubbles coming to the surface at first) got more obvious over the next weeks (gentle flicks to my inside lower abdomen or like i posted in an earlier thread like you have to hold in gas ) and now at 18.5 weeks we in our Oct. thread determined it was definitely feeling like a fish swimming around in there.
this is my first baby, i'm 36 years old and i don't consider myself thin, so i guess i'm either just very intune with my body or the baby is just optimally positioned for me to feel him/her so much so soon, or maybe it's a combo of both. what i was looking for was whether it happened in the lower abdomen in the front, and it always did. so i knew it couldn't be gas
but yes, i guess the norm for first time moms is between about 20-25 weeks, so i heard. the moment you know what to look for, the more you will feel your baby.

what i'd like to know is, when will others be able to feel the baby kick?

love,
B.

Re: When does the baby start to move??

I first felt my baby (born Jan. 2006, first baby) moving around (for sure) mid-way between my 23rd and 24th week. We had seen her flailing around like crazy on an 11th week ultrasound, so I couldn't believe it took me so long to be able feel her. I am overweight, which I didn't find out until later has an effect on when movement is detected, and once I did start feeling movement she wasn't all that active (she moved for short periods maybe twice a day and shifted around every couple of days). Also I was looking for a feeling like "butterflys" or "gas bubbles" and what I actually ended up feeling was more like a "tapping."

My OB happened to be pregnant at the same time as me, and she is skinny and didn't feel any movement until she was 23 weeks (first baby)...

My sister-in-law just started feeling movement at 12 weeks (2nd baby), and my best friend at 14 weeks (3rd baby).

So I guess it really is very different for everyone.

As for when others could feel her, it was only a couple of days after I felt the "for sure" movement that I was studying my belly and saw a ripple go across it!

-D.
