If you have not had one ever, yes they will do a pap smear. If you have not had one that was clear in the last 6-12 months, they will also do one. They only way to test for HPV is start with a pap. It will show abnormal cells on the cervix if you have HPV. They can further study which type of HPV it is, or eliminate it as just a growth(or even cancer), with an endo. biopsy. Neither exam hurts, it's just a bit strange to have someone in there. HPV will not hurt your baby throught the pregnancy, and it is very unlikely you would pass it to him/her.
