Question Long Hot Showers??

I take long showers that are pretty warm but they aren't scolding. I've read that you can't go into a hot tub or take hot baths but no one has said anything about hot showers. Does anyone know if there is a problem with a long hot shower?

Re: Long Hot Showers??

If I remember right, it shouldn't be so hot that it raises your temperature.

Re: Long Hot Showers??

I usually take VERY hot showers, but since I've been pg they cause me to over heat and feel very weak/dizzy. I'm half way through my ninth month now and I can take fairly warm showers finally, but just listen to your body. I know they recomend not over heating esp. in the first trimester because it has been associated with miscarriages.

Re: Long Hot Showers??

i will admit that i used to soak in the tub in hotter water than i should have when i was pregnant. it was the only way to relax! i never let it get as hot as i would have wanted though and sometimes i would even take the thermometer with me just to be sure! my dd turned out just fine, good luck!!

Re: Long Hot Showers??

My mom was staying with me for a week recently and was amazed at all of the restrictions there are about pregnancy now compared to when she had my sister 42 years ago and me 34 years ago. She said that she now knows how we all turned out so weird... it must have been those scalding hot baths she used to take, even when she was pregnant! ha!

Anything that raises your core temperature, including hot baths, showers, saunas, being outside in the summer heat, etc. should be avoided since it can hurt the fetus/baby. I believe the magic number is 100 degrees F for 10-15 minutes. But at anytime that you feel flushed you should get out of the heat.

That being said, I now feel the need to go pour some bubble bath in my garden tub and take a nice WARM soak.
