Question Difference between Braxton Hicks and contractions?

Hi everyone, I'm told that contractions feel like menstrual cramps, and braxton hicks feels like a tightening of the abdomen. I'm at 33 weeks and lastnight I woke up with what felt like menstrual cramps and it lasted for like 5-10 minutes straight. I'm under the impression that if it was a real contraction it would have only lasted 30 secs to a minute. Any idea when I should start worrying about feeling a menstrual cramp feeling? I'm kind of confused as to when BH turn into real contractions.

Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

Re: Difference between Braxton Hicks and contractions?

yeah, it shouldn't last that long. maybe a min or 2. maybe the baby was laying on something wrong and that's what was causing the pain.
to me, real contracions feel like bh with severe cramps and back pain. your stomach gets extra hard, and it kinda feels hard to breathe. and then in a min. it's over, until the next one
i would keep a watch, if it continues to happen, then i would call or go see the dr.
good luck

Bh are real contractions, they just aren't you going into labor. The cramping you're describing doesn't sound like contractions. It may just be from the baby putting pressure on an unusual area or stratching of ligaments or something but if it happens again I would talk to your dr. Bh usually only last 30 sec to min and if you have more than 4 and hr you should lay down and call your dr.
