I had an ultrasound today because my doctor said I was measuring small. I am 36 weeks and 4 days and the tech said the baby was measuring 34 weeks and 4 days. She said she had all her parts(which I knew cause I had a level 2 ultrasound) but I am still worried.I have to wait until Friday to see my doctor. What do yo ugirls think? She guess her weight at 5 lbs 4 ounces which doesn't seem that bad to me.Please help!
my son measured a little small throughout my pregnancy and so did my uterus (probably why he was small). He was a about 3 wks early and weighed 5lbs 15 oz. but had apgars of 9 and 10. He was completely healthy then and is now a very healthy almost 2 yr old. Don't worry unless your dr. tells you there is reason to. Incidentally, with my current pregnancy I measured small at two ultrasounds and they decided to move my due date to 11 days later. Was your little measuring completely on track in your previous u/s? Is there a chance the date could be off? Either way, remember, baby's have growth spurts in the womb just like they do out of it. That's why some months we put on a lot more weight than others. Try not to stress and keep us posted. Good luck.
MrsB816,
Thank you for the quick reply. No, I don't think my measurements were off at all the whole pregnancy. Every appointment I asked my doctor if I was measuring okay and she said yes. I decided to have a level 2 ultrasound because I am over 35 and that turned out okay, I guess, as far as all the measurements were concerned. My appointment last week was the first I heard of this, although alot of people said I was small for being 8 months pg. I know when I conceived because it was Christmas eve, I am sure of that! LOL Is it possible she has just stopped growing? Will I have to be induced? Thanks so much for your help!!!!
One of my best friends just had her baby 2 weeks ago - at 32 weeks because she had pre-eclapsia. The baby was small for her age and didn't have enough fluid also - the doctor said because of the high blood pressure. She was 3 lbs and 1 oz when she was born and is perfectly healthly. She has to stay in the NICU until next week and should get to go home. I say all of this to say that don't jump too conclusions - your baby can be born healthy and just be small.
They said i would be lucky if my son was 6lbs...my tummy even measured 34 wks instead of 40 on my due date and when i had him shortly after he was almost 8 lbs...i think u have no reason to worry at all!
Babies grow at different rates and range from 5 lbs to 10+ lbs at birth, even full term. That's a lot of leeway! I'm still trying to figure out my 6'2" husband, his 6'4" dad, his 5'10" mom, and his 5'0" sister! As I said, babies (and adults) come in all shapes and sizes. Wait to see what your doctor says.
hayley has a good point. I've seen a lot of times on these boards where they told women at an u/s that a baby was going to be one weight and they were completely wrong. I don't think u/s are very accurate for weight, but their measurements for length are more acurate. Either way, I would think you have a very good chance of having a healthy baby if everything else is going fine. BTW, quite a Christmas present you gave yourselves
Thanks so much for the replies! I see my doctor tomorrow to go over the sonogram results...will let you girls know. UNtil then I will try not to worry! Thanks so much!
