just wondering...about how far along does an OB check your cervix for dilation and/or effacement? i'm 34w5d and haven't had an exam since about 3 months along. i'm just kinda curious what's going on down there. i've finally started having some braxton-hicks and a good bit of pressure downstairs and thought maybe things were progressing already. thanks ladies.
depends on your doc. the medical group i was going to does not check until 38wks.
the so-called "progress" really doesn't mean much, though...i was a finger tip dilated at 38 weeks and felt rather discouraged because i thought i would be pregnant for a good while longer. i went into labor at 38/3 and had my baby 44 hours later.
All depends on the dr and what you tell them. if you start to tell them you are feeling this way they will normally check early. With DS I started getting checked around 36wks, but I think that was in partial due to high risk, I'm not quite sure. I know it really depends on the dr.
My doctor checked with my last child at 34 weeks. I went in stating I had been feeling a huge amount of pressure and I turned out to be 3 cm and 50% thinned out. I went another 2 weeks before having my son.
thanks for all of the comments ladies!...i have an appt with my OB monday (i'll be 35 weeks) so we'll see what she says. i know i've been having some feelings that i haven't had before and i kinda feel like things are changing in there. plus i think i passed a little bit of my mucus plug this evening. anyway, i hope he stays in there for a good bit longer! i'm ready for him to be here but not too early. i want my little guy to have at least a few more weeks of "cooking" in there!
