Thumbs down Ahhh! Bad pregnancy acne!

Someone please give me some insight. I am 10 weeks pregnant with my first child. I've always had some acne due to elevated androgen hormones from my PCOS, but it's gotten so much worse in the last two weeks. I'm thinking this is due to my hormone levels being so high right now and my placenta still hasn't completely taken over it, but do you think I'll see any improvement in my acne as my pregnancy progresses? I definitely don't have that beautiful glowing pregnancy skin that a lot of women get. Instead, my face is covered in cysts and whiteheads, mostly around my chin, mouth, and jawline. I'm on Benzamycin and Azalex Cream from my dermatologist, but they're no longer working like they were pre-pregnany. Thoughts? Advice?

Re: Ahhh! Bad pregnancy acne!

i got very bad acne during first and most of 2nd trimester. I have PCOS as well. I'm nearing my 28th week and the past week or so my face has really cleared up for the first time in years!! i just hope it stays that way.

Re: Ahhh! Bad pregnancy acne!

I never had acne prepreg, but got a horrible case of it during preg starting at about 10 or 12 weeks. I quit wearing makeup for about 6 weeks and it cleared up completely. Then I only wore minimal makeup (so I didn't look half dead) for the remainder of the pregnancy. I have PCOS, bt fortunately for me, didn't have that issue and still do not. If your MD will prescribe you an antibiotic, I would recommend it, it may help clear up your current outbreak, so you can get some relief, (just beware that MD's are hesitant to give antibiotics unless they are really needed, so they may refuse.

Re: Ahhh! Bad pregnancy acne!

Wow...I have never been diagnosed with PCOS...but I have had acne problems ever since I was a teenager and I'm now 27. My sister has also had problems with adult acne and infertility. I have had two miscarriages (one a parial molar) and with this pregnancy, my progesterone was really low and I had to be put on prometrium. This is the only pregnancy I've ever had make it to the second trimester and counting. I'm starting to wonder if there is a connection between the acne and miscarriages...Does anyone else also have anxiety or know if it can be related to PCOS or other hormonal imbalances? I'm thinking that, fingers crossed this pregnancy goes to term, after the baby is born I'm going to get tested for hormone inbalances.

But as far as the acne goes, mine cleared up and then came back with a vengeance in the first trimester. Now I'm just about 17 weeks and it is finally starting to clear up...I'm guessing because of the placenta taking over. It really stinks because I stopped using Murad, etc and I only use dove soap now. I don't know what to suggest for this topic other than waiting it out to see if it gets better when the placenta takes over and possibly taking Vitamin B I think. I know when I was pregnant with the first that I loss, my acne was really bad because my HCG levels were probably sky high (symptom of partial molar) and my doctor said I could take Vitamin B i think. Check with your doctor. I'm not positive that it was Vitamin B and I don't remeber how much was safe. Unfortunately, at least in my case, it seems like nothing I do ever helps. I break out every month and I spend the whole month trying to clear it up before it just breaks out again.
