Help me with this side sleeping stuff

I can't sleep. I'm trying to sleep on my side and not flat on my back anymore. But I keep waking up flat on my back. So I tried a pillow btwn my legs, but it's too hot, my butt cramps up, etc. I've heard pg women love body pillows. Anyone tried one? Or can I sleep on my back if I'm propped up on a couple of pillows?

I had this same problem in the beginning. My doctor said not to worry about it and sleep on my back. So I did! Now that I am 34 weeks I automatically sleep on my side since I am a lot bigger. You will know when you are too big to be sleeping on your back b/c it won't be comfy anymore!

hi ibelieve, how far are you now? you must be getting quite big
the main reason for not sleeping on your back is because the weight of the baby can put pressure against the veins and nerves on your spine,and that doesnt really happen until you are really big. but you will get to a point when it is uncomfortable and you shouldnt wake on your back anymore, but i wouldnt worry about it, i have always been a belly sleeper and i slept on my belly until i was about 30 weeks i would fall asleep on my side but my hips hurt so bad i would always wake on my belly, and jacob is absolutely fine

My doctor (and my sis-in-law's doctor) said that sleeping on our backs were pefectly fine. My dr. said that the books were making pregnant women more paranoid then we needed to be about this issue. If something is wrong w/the baby, we will wake ourselves up to change positions. I'm now 35 weeks and still wake up on my back. Hope this helps!
