the ultrasound tech would have told ya twins if it were twins--- that's what I would think anyways.

Re: how soon can i have an ultrasound to determine twins

We went for an ultrasound to determine the due date, we couldnt find a baby so she looked at my ovaries and saw each ovary released an egg. She said because there was 2 follicles its most likely twins but its to early to see them. So i was just curious.

Well, if your ovaries released 2 eggs, then there is a good chance of twins. Of course there is no guarantee that both eggs were fertilized. You didn't mention how far along you are, but I'm guessing you are only a few weeks. Usually by 7 or 8 weeks the embryo is big enough to be seen on the ultrasound, so depending on position, they may be able to see two of them in there. But I have heard of some women not knowing they were having twins until they were much farther along.

I underwent fertility treatment with clomid and had two follicles release. I only ended up with one baby in there- so its possible to only end up with one fertilized. I had my first u/s to see how many at 7w. Good Luck on your pregnancy and hopefully all will end up the way you hope.

Re: how soon can i have an ultrasound to determine twins

I had my u/s at 6 weeks and the twins were clearly visible and their heartbeats were also visible. I had another u/s at 7 weeks and not only were the twins measuring growth from the previous weeks but we actually heard the heartbeats. so as early as 6 weeks you should know and be able to confirm it. how far along are you?

Re: how soon can i have an ultrasound to determine twins

Now did she see two follicles (on the ovary) or two gestational sacs (in the uterus)? There's a big difference. If you just saw 2 follicles, then it just means you had the chance of ovulating 2 eggs. That may or may not result in a twin pg. When I was on Clomid, one month I had 5 follicles and still didn't get pg. But if she saw 2 sacs, then I'd say there's a good chance of twins. I'm 27 wks pg now, and on our first US at 6 wks we saw what looked like 2 sacs. We went back a few days later for a recheck and there was just one sac with a beautiful heartbeat! Good luck dear!
