Very worried as i found out last week that i'm 5 weeks pregnant, 5 weeks 5 days now and counting!! It wasn't planned but now in know i'm very happy and looking forward to being a mum. However, for the last couple of weeks, i've been getting these period like pains in my very lower left stomach. They are very low down and only on the left hand side. I'm worried i'm having an ectopic pregnancy. They aren't mega painful, only about a 4 out of 10 on the pain scale. but they're there about 75 percent of the day. Anyone else get this when pregnant? I've got my first doctors appointment wednesday but i'm really worried, have been all weekend. Anyone had these pains and been ok? or turned out to be eptopic? I'd rather know what i could be dealing with. If it is ectopic then i can start preparing myself. So if anyone had an ectopic, let me know the signs, or has had similar pains and pregnancy been fine.
Many thanks to you all for any help or advice you can give me. I'm really worried. x
Very early on in pregnancy, in fact I think it was up until about 9 wks, I had period like cramps . . it's very common . . mine weren't just on one side though . . . I did read that one of the symptoms of ectopic pregnancy is mild cramping on one side of the pelvis. Just try to relax, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!
I had some mildly painful cramps the whole 1st trimester of both of my pregnancies. They are usually normal early on. I have also heard that ectopic you get really bad pains on one side, and possibly bleeding, I'm not sure on that though. If they get too bad don't hesitate to try to get in to the Dr.'s earlier for reassurance. They should get you in faster if you tell them what's going on. Keep us posted!
I am currently a few weeks pregnant with my first child, and I too am experiencing mild cramps. They are not to painful, less painful than my period cramps are. They are the majority of the day and faid away towards the evening when I start to take it easy. Kind of come back though in the late night early morning. I hope nothing is wrong with you or your child. :-)
Hope i can shed a bit of light on this situation & perhaps give you some positive response. I also had this from about 6 weeks onwards & during the first trimester it was quite bad, but i was told by my OB that the most common cause of this type of pain (whether it be on both or just one side) is Round Ligament pain. It is caused by the ligaments stretching up & around to support the growing uterus!!! It disappears after a while, but then you'll probably find that it returns at different stages of your pregnancy when you tummy does the most of it's stretching!!!
It wasn't as painful after the first trimester & i didn't have it constantly..... it was pretty much on & off, but i did find that when i pressed on where it was sore.... it was like the pain wasn't really there.... sort of as though where i pressed, it disappeared! Hard to describe, but if you press on it, you'll probably find that it's no more sore than it is when you're not pressing on it, whereas if it were something to worry about, you'd think it'd be painful when pressed..... but on that note, do try not to poke & prod around it too much because you may agitate it & cause it to become painful!!!
On the subject of ectopic..... when i was about 6 weeks & started to feel these pains, i went to my OB cos i'd looked up back pain in pregnancy on a seach engine & it came up with Ectopic Pregnancy & said that back pain is a symptom (usually in the shoulders or shoulder blades) & i had this, so i wanted to be checked out asap. Anyhow, my OB did a scan & although it was a bit early to see much, he could see that the baby was not in the tubes, it was in the right place & he also said that if it was ectopic i would most likely be in more pain (abdominally) & that the pain of an ectopic pregnancy is not speriodic..... it is constant & gets more intense & painful due to the internal bleeding!!! He said i'd most probably be walking hunched because of the pain!
So it doesn't sound to me like ectopic from what you've said, but like the other poster said, if you're worried, perhaps ask if you can be seen sooner, just to put your mind at ease a bit...... but i would say it all sounds like the normal stretches etc of pregnancy..... it's scary isn't it cos you feel as though it is all out of your control.... & the worry doesn't go away that's for sure.
I think what you are experiencing is normal. I had minor cramping (less painful than period cramps, but more often and consistant) from the time my period was late, until around 7 weeks. I'm around 11 weeks now, and everything is fine. So I wouldn't worry too much at this point!!
