Question about possible miscarriage -- URGENT!

A few months ago, my friend was regularly having sex with her boyfriend. She was taking birth control but missed a couple days. Two months later, she was experiencing extreme bouts of vomiting. After everything she ate, she would vomit. This occurred for twelve or thirteen days. She also told me she'd been "spotting" for the past two weeks. It wasn't a regular period. Apparently for the first two days it was very dark and thick, then it turned to a light brown. She was experiencing bad abdominal pain that eventually went away. She took two home pregnancy tests that came up positive, but went to get blood work done a few days later and it came back negative.

My friend is a regular drinker and smoker as well. Could this indicate a miscarriage? Even though, after the hypothetical "miscarriage" had occurred, she received a positive pregnancy test?

Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Question about possible miscarriage -- URGENT!

Hi there,

Yes it does sound very probable from what you have described! As for the positive pregnancy tests after the "hypothetical miscarriage"...... this is also possible, because the pregnancy hormaone can still be detected for up to 2 weeks or so (perhaps more) after a miscarriage. In most miscarriage cases, this is almost always the case..... because it takes a while for the hormones to completely get out of your system!

All the best & hopefully your friend passed all of the products of conception. Maybe speak to her & advise her gently to perhaps see her doctor just to make sure that everything has passed, just to be on the safe side! The last thing she'll want is a nasty infection.

Take care, Numb xoxoxox
